Very important, rare Sunday post.

On MONDAY, June 1st, 7th grade students should have their parents drive by the front side (Jonathon) of Lowrey School to pick up their locker bags.

TIME: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

You must stay in your car (truck or van etc.) – no students or parents will be allowed into the school building.

You should drive slowly by until you see your FIRST HOUR teacher. The teacher will hand you a bag that contains everything that was in your locker. Please be ready to tell the teacher your first hour class number.

The bag will have your name, your locker number and your first hour class number.

Because of this event, I will not be assigning any ELA work for Monday. 🙂

COMPOSITION BOOK PAGE #5

Thank you, Malik Mohammed, for forcing me to finally post the real picture of the real man!

Please write a creative, interesting story to explain how our school got its name – Harvey H. Lowrey School.

You COULD look up some REAL facts online, but I don’t think you’ll find much.

I would love it if you LOOK carefully at the picture and then use your imagination and blend the fact and the fiction into one super interesting story. BE CREATIVE!

Your writing (in a notebook) should be a FULL page – skipping lines. If you are typing on Google docs, your writing should be a FULL page, font size 14.

Here is a REAL picture of the REAL man that our school is named for:

BACK TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM!

Hello, everyone. I have posted a new assignment on Google Classroom. Basically, you have to write a summary of “Thor’s Hammer”.

DETAILED DIRECTIONS ARE ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM.

You must send me your answer on Google Classroom – do NOT send it to me in an email.

Please contact me if you need help.

ALMOST FRIDAY! 🙂

Please just READ and annotate the “Thor’s Hammer” text.

If you can print, please annotate on the text.

If you cannot print, please write your annotations on a piece of paper.

At our BBB meetings this week, we will be working on question #3, so I think you should at least look over that one before the meeting.

QUESTION #3 IS NOT THE SAME AS THOR.3! Question #3 is actually on link thor.6.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS, BUT YOU ARE WELCOME TO DO SO IF YOU ARE AN OVERACHIEVER!

BBB MEETING SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEK:

  • FIRST HOUR 2:00-2:25 PM
  • THIRD HOUR 2:30-2:55PM

Thursday – May 28, 2020

BIG QUIZ ABOUT “HOLES” BY LOUIS SACHAR WORTH 70 POINTS THIS WEEK!

MONDAY

TRY the practice quiz. Please email me if you need ANY help!

  • PRINT the practice quiz and circle your answers.
  • OR … write out your answers on a piece of paper. You MUST write out the full question and the full answer.
  • Please do NOT just guess. Please keep looking back into the “Holes” book and find the answer BEFORE you answer each question.

IF YOU NEED HELP WITH THE PRACTICE QUIZ, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BEFORE YOU TRY THE REAL QUIZ!

HERE IS THE PRACTICE QUIZ:

TUESDAY

The REAL quiz has been posted on Google classroom. The quiz is worth 70 points! Your REAL quiz score will be added to StudentConnect.

The real quiz might be SLIGHTLY different from the practice quiz just to make sure you’re paying attention. 🙂

PLEASE TRY THE PRACTICE QUIZ FROM MONDAY AND MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE ANSWERS BEFORE YOU TAKE THE REAL QUIZ.

WEDNESDAY

All BBB meetings will be on Wednesday this week.

I have teacher meetings all day on Thursday, so Thursday BBB classes have been canceled.

This week, BBB meetings are for students who have questions or need help with missing assignments on StudentConnect or need help with the quiz. If you are good, you do NOT need to attend the BBB meeting, but I would appreciate an email from you telling me that you are happy with your grade and do not need any help at this time.

  • FIRST HOUR: 2:00-2:15 PM
  • THIRD HOUR: 2:15-2:30 PM
  • FOURTH HOUR: 2:30-2:45 PM
  • SIXTH HOUR: 2:45-3:00 PM

THURSDAY

COMPOSITION BOOK PAGE #4

Please write about your plans for the Memorial Day holiday or the Eid holiday or BOTH. When you see BOTH in all caps, that’s probably a good clue that you should do that if you want an A+. 🙂

  • If you are writing in a notebook, you need to fill a whole page (skipping lines is fine).
  • If you are writing on Google docs, you also need to fill a whole page (font size 14).

NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2020!

NO SCHOOL MONDAY, MAY 25, 2020!

COMPOSITION BOOK PAGE #3

OK so this is pretty simple. Please find a quiet place in your house (garage, basement, porch, attic wherever!) and carefully and slowly read Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 of “Holes” by Louis Sachar. Please set a timer and read for at least 20 minutes. Please read MORE chapters if you need to to get to 20 minutes. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO READ FOR LONGER THAN 20 MINUTES!

In your composition book, please write a short summary of Chapter 4 then write a short summary of Chapter 5.

Write your exact start time and end time at the top of the page!

Let’s be honest … you COULD easily cheat and just search Google for chapter summaries. I am actually OK with that AS LONG AS YOU ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK FIRST!

In fact … here is a link to cheat:

EXTRA CREDIT:

  • I will be VERY IMPRESSED if you can figure out a way to add your mom or dad’s signature to this page if you are doing your composition book on Google docs.
  • If you are using a notebook, just ask your mom or dad to sign the page after you are finished.

BBB MEETINGS WEDNESDAY FOR 4TH HOUR AND 6TH HOUR

  • 4TH HOUR 2:00-2:25 PM
  • 6TH HOUR 2:30-2:55 PM

BBB MEETINGS THURSDAY FOR 1ST HOUR AND 3RD HOUR

  • 1ST HOUR 11:00-11:25 AM
  • 3RD HOUR 11:30-11:55 AM

“HOLES” BY LOUIS SACHAR CHAPTERS 2 AND 3

BEFORE YOU COME TO OUR MEETING … PLEASE READ CHAPTERS 2 AND 3. Chapter 2 is short. Chapter 3 is A LOT. Please take your time and make sure you are understanding the text. You may want to read and discuss with a family member.

I WILL BE ASKING QUESTIONS IN CLASS TODAY ABOUT CHAPTERS 1, 2, AND 3 AND THE AUTHOR.

AUTHOR STUDY: Louis Sachar

Today, I do NOT want you to read Chapter 2.

Today, please just read through pages 12-18 of the study guide. You don’t have to read EVERY, SINGLE word, but just skim through and gather some interesting information about the author.

On a piece of paper (white printer paper is best, but any paper will be ok), please DRAW the author of “HOLES”. There is a picture on this iBlog, but you are welcome to search for other or better pics of him.

After you have drawn the author, please write interesting facts about him all around the picture. You can write exact quotes that he said or you can write interesting facts about him. PLEASE USE EXTREMELY NEAT HANDWRITING.

Your artwork does not have to be AMAZING, but please take your time and make it look good. Tracing is OK! You do not have to add color if you are good with shadows and shading with a normal pencil. Obviously, if your artwork IS amazing, I will be forced to give you extra credit points. 🙂

HERE IS THE STUDY GUIDE DOCUMENT:

“HOLES” by Louis Sachar

Today, we will be starting a new chapter book (novel) called “Holes” by Louis Sachar.

We will be reading this book until the Memorial Day/Eid holiday break.

THAT IS ONLY 9 SCHOOL DAYS AWAY! (so we probably will not finish reading the whole book)

For Monday, all you need to do is read Chapter 1 then answer the questions. You may write your answers on a sheet of paper … OR … you may type your answers on Google docs.

YOU MUST RESTATE AND WRITE COMPLETE SENTENCES FOR ALL YOUR ANSWERS. You do NOT have to write the question unless you are one of those A+ students who always insists on full points. 🙂

YOU DO NOT NEED TO SEND YOUR ANSWERS TO ME … YET … unless you are struggling and need help.

HERE IS THE BOOK!

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS FOR CHAPTER 1:

REMEMBER – Even if your grade is HORRIBLE, if you do this extra credit, it will go UP!

  • Go on StudentConnect and PRINT your own progress report, then have your mom and/or dad sign it. Then send it to me.
  • IF YOUR GRADE WAS ALREADY AN A, B, OR C LAST THURSDAY, I DID NOT MAIL THE PROGRESS REPORT TO YOUR HOUSE, AND YOU WILL GET THE FULL 20 POINTS OF EXTRA CREDIT! 🙂

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY

BIG BLUE BUTTON MEETINGS ON ILEARN!

  • 1st hour – 2:00 PM – Wednesday
  • 3rd hour – 2:30 PM – Wednesday
  • 4th hour – 11:00 AM – Thursday

Because this is our first time using BBB, I am asking that all you do is join the meeting for a few minutes and check in with me about your grades, etc. Even if your grade is GOOD, I want you to join the meeting. This is our chance to make sure the technology is working and everyone knows how to join.

I WILL E-MAIL THE CLASS CODES FOR YOU TO JOIN ILEARN!

FRIDAY

COMPOSITION BOOK PAGE #2

First – READ! Read the bottom half of the page.

Neatly copy the five sentences AND the web. Use words from the web to fill in the blanks of the sentences.

If you want FULL points, you must then add a new “pend/pens” word to the web and create a new sentence using that word. (7 total words and 6 total sentences)
