Online Learning 3/16-3/22

Good morning,

Attached you will find the first week’s online learning plan. Students are to complete all the assignments by 3/23. I will also post 3/23’s work on that day (possibly the day before).

I am new to online learning, so if what I asked students to do is too much please let me know so I can adjust for the next week. Again my email is zastror@dearbornschools.org. If it was not enough work, I left suggestions on the document on what else students can do.

Please be safe, and I look forward to hearing everyone’s stories when we get back to school! I love you all.

Letter to Parents

Dear Miller 5th grade parents,

Please make sure to check our iBlogs every Monday as we will be posting assignments for the week. Many of the assignments will be on Google Classroom or through a link from our iBlogs. Students can submit assigned writing on Google Classroom or via Google Documents. Please make sure they share them with the teacher.

No new lessons will be assigned, however, many lessons will be reviewed to maintain achieved progress. We will be focusing on:

  • iReady online resource for math and reading – we will post clear instructions for the students to follow.
  • Social Studies and Science will be posted on either iBlog or Google Classroom

Since we are working from home, we will do our best to answer questions in a timely manner.

Stay safe!

Mrs. Zastrow

Week of March 9th

Happy Sunday morning! I am awake from Daily Savings time bright and early.

REMINDERS:

  • Camp is Monday-Wednesday. Students who are going camping we will miss you! I spoke to them to remind them they are still responsible for their missing homework, so please make sure they do it before Friday.
  • With the worry about sicknesses, please review with your child proper washing etiquette. If they have younger siblings have them test them on how long to wash their hands.
  • We are done with winter testing! We only have M-Step in April, May spring NWEA and DRAs left! So far this class has been impressive with their strives and gains. Be proud to have raised such goal orientated children who welcome challenges and met them with no fear.
  • Tuesday is the primary elections! Please take the time to vote. We have been learning about people’s rights to vote and that in early American history not everyone had that right. This would be a great opportunity to have a conversation with your child about voting.

Have a great rest of your Sunday!

Week of March 2

Good morning,

It was a great snowy week last week, and next will be warming up again! Please continue to send jackets to school. Fifth graders sometimes think they are above 40 degree weather.

REMINDERS:

  • We missed part of our WIDA due to the snow, so we will continue it next week.
  • Some students took their Social Studies assessment on Friday, but many did not finish. We will take some time Monday to finish it up.
  • We also will be taking our math and science assessments. Math we will review a study guide. The assessment is a serious of connected word problems dealing with fractions. Make sure your child can add and subtract fractions comfortably. Our science is based on our investigations and we will work on them together.

I did not get much pictures this week, but here are two of the girls during recess.

Have a great rest of your weekend! I hope to see everyone rested and ready on Monday!

Week of February 24th

Good vacation morning!

It’s bright and early on Saturday and we have a full week off! I wanted to get this post up before I lose myself in playing all the toddler games with Bin. Right now he likes to pretend we’re pirates.

REMINDERS:

  • Our class begins WIDA testing on Tuesday! We have all grown as individuals and I anticipate a lot of improvement.
  • There’s a field trip, free of charge, to The Detroit Orchestra Symphony on Wednesday. If students do not plan to go, they must still be in school. We will only be gone for 2 hours or so.
  • We are finishing up our math module, social studies unit, and a section in science. So there may be a LOT of class assessments coming up. Once we complete our study guides I will post them here.

Have a great week off! There’s a lot of pictures below 🙂

Week of February 10

Good weekend morning!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekends, I sure am.

REMINDERS:

  • Field Trip to Cranbrook Museum on Wednesday. Please send your child with a lunch. Also there is a gift shop they are welcome to purchase from.
  • We have mid-winter break the following week. But right after we start WIDA testing.
  • Continue to send students to school bundled up for outdoor recess. We have been feeling cabin fever and need to get some fresh air and sunshine.
  • Chocolate is delicious, but not a snack! Please do not send candy and chocolate as a snack. However, Valentine’s Day is Friday and students are welcome to share something with their classmates.
  • 6 students have been selected for the annual math facts competition. Please have your child practice their facts at home.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Week of February 3rd

Happy February!

I cannot believe where the time has gone?! The year is almost over and your children will soon be middle schoolers! We have just a few more months to make sure they will be successful in their middle school careers

REMINDERS:

  • We have a math mid-module assessment on Monday.
  • Testing is done! Students did great and I am proud on their efforts.
  • Please make sure your child is completing homework at home. Some students are trying to get it done in the early morning before we begin or even during recess when they really need to take a social break. Typically they are getting 3 math, spelling, and handwriting homework a week.

Have a great rest of your snowy Saturday!
