Kindergarten – Mouse Paint!!

In Kindergarten art, we read the book Mouse Paint . Then we used our fingers like “mouse feet” to finger paint mix primary colors to secondary colors! We drew and cut ovals for our mice and added paper ears and pink yarn tails!

5th Grade – Creative Color Wheels!

In 5th Grade art students are learning how to mix primary colors to create both secondary and tertiary colors, in color wheel order. Students are inventing cardboard relief designs that literally pop with color! I can’t wait to see them all complete! Amazing work!

5th Grade Art – Imaginary Dragon Eyes

In 5th grade art, students studied charcteristics of reptile eyes, including the shapes, textures, and colors. Students then layered vine charcoal sketches with bright chalk pastels to create imagainary “dragon eyes” with the illusion of texture on a 2D surface.

4th Grade – Colorful Coiled Pottery

In 4th grade art, students studied how to create unique functional forms with pinch pot, coil, and slip and score techniques! Students then added underglaze and sgraffito carving for decoration. Wonderful work!

2nd Grade – Printmaking “Wild Things”

In 2nd grade art, we read the book “Where the Wild Things Are” and learned about foam carving print processes. Inspired by the story, we created our own fanciful, textured, patterned creature stamps! Then, listening for the “sticky noise”, we rolled our brayers through ink and hand pressed multiples of our Wild Thing stamps!! Wonderful and imaginative art 2nd grade!

3rd Grade – Stained Glass Panels

In 3rd grade art, we looked at all different kinds of stained glass, from church and mosque windows, to Tiffany lamps, to modern sculpture and airport architecture. We noticed how artists add beauty and interest with light and transparent color. Next, we practiced mixing acrylic paint colors and cutting symmetrical, balanced designs to create our own unique stained glass!

2nd Grade – Abstract Shape Portraits

In 2nd Grade art, we explored Cubist portraiture, noticing the bright contrasting colors and playful geometric shapes. Then, we drew and outlined our own portraits, BIG! Finally, we learned about warm and cool color families and used both warm and cool colors to make our portraits POP! Wonderful work!

1st Grade – Cut Paper Paintings

In first grade art, we read the story “Henri’s Scissors” and learned about how Henri Matisse, especially in his older age, had assistants paint paper for him that he could then cut into shapes and “paint” with in a new way. Using the primary colors, we painted a sheet of paper and discovered new secondary colors. After the paint dried, we explored organic and geometric shapes and cut our painted paper to build interesting new pictures!

Kindergarten – The Little Yellow Leaf

In Kindergarten art, we read a book together called The Little Yellow Leaf. Inspired by the trees and colors of the fall season, students cut and ripped paper to create tree trunks and branches. Next, we used sponge painting to created textured, full leaves! Beautiful artwork Kindergarten!
