Greetings William Ford students and families!

I thoroughly enjoy both teaching and making art and am thrilled to join you this year!  Currently, I hold a bachelors in studio art and art history from Kalamazoo College and visual arts teacher certification from the College for Creative Studies. I love  painting, printmaking, mixed media, ceramics, and most any art or design challenge!

I’ve been teaching art for the past six years in a variety of  roles. I’ve worked as a teaching artist with Education for the Arts in partnership with  Kalamazoo public schools, a post-baccalaureate fellow managing the Kalamazoo College community art studio, and a youth hand-building ceramics instructor with Pewabic Pottery.  Most recently, I taught art at Hutchinson@Howe Elementary -Middle School in Detroit. I am excited to get to know all of my William Ford students and families and make some amazing art together!

Art Focus

This year we will explore drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, as well as a variety of sculptural methods, such as ceramics and paper mache. Together we will explore big ideas in art and design, access our creative thinking, try new art techniques and materials, talk and write about art, explore contemporary and historical artists, and learn how to be part of a group art studio.

Our visual arts curriculum will follow the National Core Arts Standards: Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting. Please see the Dearborn Schools website for more information!

Grading and Art Room Expectations

Art grading will follow a 1-2-3-4 number scale for categories of Follows Procedures, Demonstrates Skills with Tools and Materials, Applies Age Appropriate Concepts, and Problem Solves Creatively.

1=exceeds expectations, 2= meets expectations, 3= progressing towards expectations, 4=concern.

William Ford Classroom Expectations: Be respectful. Be responsible. Be safe.   (And….HAVE FUN!)
