Today we took the firearms quiz/test in class today…grades will be posted ASAP
Due to the snow day on Thursday, the test has been postponed until Monday.
Today in class we played a Kahoot game. You can find it at this link:
Also some questions to keep in consideration for short answer questions…
1. What are the steps involved in firing a gun?
2. What is rifling? What is its purpose? How do forensic scientists use it to solve crimes?
3. Of all of the pieces of evidence related to firearms, what is class evidence? What is individual evidence?
4. Can you make a match or support a match of a bullet or shell casing?
I found this powerpoint online and it is a great review about all the topics we’ve been studying. It has some labeled diagrams if you are struggling too.
Check it out:

WE HAVE A QUIZ/TEST ON FRIDAY! Study your guided notes, and your vocabulary!
Today we did an activity about caliber and gauge. We also did a Firearms ID word sort. Click on the link for the vocabulary words and definitions.
Today students either worked on an online assignment or finished a written assignment from last week (sub work). We will flip flop on Monday so everyone can have time to do both.
To access the online assignment, go to www.firearmsid.com
When there, click on classroom. The login code for the online classroom is C10255FS2016.
Put in your hour, then name as your name please.
You must complete at least test #1 for the Bullet Comparison module. A score of at least 25% will be considered proficient. (It’s challenging, but don’t give up!)
Today students worked in groups to answer one of these questions, then we presented out to the larger class. Check out the questions here: rifling questions 2.18.16
Today in class we used a virtual comparison microscope program to compare the firing pin impressions of firearms on shell casings.
The website: www.firearmsid.com
The classroom login key: C10255FS2016
Students were to complete test 1 & 2 in the cartridge casing activities. (Scroll all the way to the bottom. Read the directions on the site to use the program.)
Students needed to receive a 75% or better on both tests to get the points for the assignment.
Today we finished up notes, looked at some fired shell casings and bullets, and compared hollow point bullets to full metal jackets.
Today in class we completed some guided notes on firearms identification using this powerpoint: Firearms powerpoint
All the photos were taken by myself.
Today we reviewed physical, circumstantial, class and individual evidence types. We used a 4 square and an article about a Michigan case involving Theresa Dekyzer. Students were asked to find examples of the different types of evidence using the article.
