Monday, May 11th

We are getting SO CLOSE to the end of the school year! So close! By my count, we have 21 full days and 1 half day 🙂

Here is a copy of this week’s work list. A copy is ALSO posted in Google Classroom, and there is one in iLearn as well. https://docs.google.com/document/d/14IkSbnZo0lRmefluOUJKHtgBd_WPifGUI222I9mvMcI/edit?usp=sharing

All 6th graders will be reading “The Crossover” by Kwame Alexander for the next few weeks. A PDF (copy you can read on an electronic device) is in iLEARN; I will also post a copy in Google Classroom. ALL WORK RELATED TO THIS NOVEL WILL BE POSTED IN iLEARN. We will discuss the readings during our live lessons

NEW BIG BLUE BUTTON (LIVE MEETING) SCHEDULE BELOW:

1st block (1st/3rd hours): MON AND WED 2:30-3:15

2nd block (4th/5th hours): TUE AND THUR 2:30-3:15

3rd block (7th/8th hours): TUE AND THUR 12:20-1:05

The district is working on improving Big Blue Button, the meetings feature in iLearn. We are trying out best this week to test the platform and see where the issues are.

Students should try to review the questions posted in Classroom before our meets. Answering them on a google doc will keep them organized, and enable our discussion to move along smoothly. GOOGLE DOCS DO NOT HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED!!!

Advisory will use their link to Padlet to answer this week’s question.

I am available via Remind or email from 8 am to 4 p.m. After 4 p.m., I promise you will receive an answer to your question within 24 hours.

Please add yourselves to our classroom Remind account! I will be sending important information throughout the year via Remind text. Use the link: rmd.at/h8cchc OR text the message @h8cchc to 831-613-1863

Email is the best way to contact me. My email is: thompsc@dearbornschools.org

This week, we are: reading poems 51-60 AND 61-70 in “The Crossover”; discussing the story elements, including tone and mood; completing IXL 6.R.1 (practicing homophones); completing the reading journal (due Monday 5/18); completing the quizzes for poems 51-60 and 61-70 in iLearn.

Students with missing assignments receive at least ONE email during the week to remind them to complete the assignment. Please check student connect to make sure things are caught up!

Below is an updated Google Calendar that shows the days and times of live lessons, as well as assignments due this week.
