Friday’s Quiz will cover the vocabulary words on your chart as well as questions about the story Sundiata.
Consider/Review:
What relationship motivates Djata the MOST? Why?
What is the Narrator’s PURPOSE in telling the story? What is he trying to accomplish as he tells the story to the children of Mali?
What is the PURPOSE for the reader? In other words, what do we gain from the story?
What is the MAIN conflict in the story?
What VALUES are important in Mali culture?

Catcher in the Rye Essay Friday! You may bring a note card with a list of characters and identifiers to help you. I will also be handing back your Summer work which will provide you with your thoughts on various themes to use as a reference.
If you are new to the class, plan on finishing up reading and completing the work in class. You will need to schedule an after-school make up for the essay.

The directions above explain how to write the Where Am I Going narrative that we began in class on Wednesday. If you were absent Thursday, please read the firections and finish your narrative for Friday. Follow all directions carefully. Cut off the rubric a nd staple it to the final copy.

Incoming 10th grade HONORS students-Summer Work!
Please read a minimum of TWO books: one of your own choosing and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Attached is the summer work for the novel. It is due the first FULL day back to school. Honors classes may NOT turn in LATE work for CREDIT so please be prepared! It must be typed or done neatly in INK. NO PENCIL!
For your choice book: Write the MLA citation and a brief summary on a note card. On the back of the card, please evaluate what you likedand disliked about the book and your reasons. Also, provide a rating and who you would recommend it to. Create a small drawing on an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of construction paper that captures a moment in the plot or relates to a theme. It can be a collection of symbols if you wish. Be prepared to explain it aloud as a quick presentation to the class in the first few days of school.
