Grammar Pre-test Friday!
The pre-test will cover parts of speech, pronoun case usage, subject/verb and pronoun/antecedent agreement as well as commonly confused words such as effect/affect, accept/ except, good/well, etc.
Students will need a #2 pencil.
All students should be subscribed to the blog by Friday, and have turned in the signed parent letter.
District Common Final
Students will be practicing skills and looking at sample passages and questions in class Monday and Tuesday to prepare for the District Common Assessment. We will discuss question types, review key terms, and test-taking strategies. If you would like further practice, visit the following site:

Grammar Post Test Thursday
Review packet will be given today in class. You should also review old DLP bellwork and the grammar pages in your planner. Please bring a #2 pencil tomorrow for the exam.
2nd–continue drafting the rest of your argumentative essay Wednesday and Thursday. Use the planner and writer’s checklist I gave you to revise/edit your essay. We will print out final copies in the LAB on Friday.
HONORS–we will be reading/analyzing Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” Wed, Thurs, Friday this week. Please do NOT take Poe books home as I only have one class set.
Resources for Argumentative Essay
HONORS:
Bring rough draft of complete essay on TUESDAY. We will proof/edit in the computer LAB and print out the final copy.
LA3 2nd hour resources:
Topics and Thesis (regular LA3)
Bring your rough draft of intro. and body paragraphs on Tuesday. You will be working on revision and a conclusion on Tuesday.
Argument Unit
We have been working on the Argument Unit the last two weeks, reading and annotating various sources including video clips, articles in a text set, and a film regarding the social issue of organ donation. Students will choose a prompt, search through their resources for evidence to support their topic, and write a strong CLAIM. We will spend Thursday and Friday writing introductions with CLAIM, and begin to build our body paragraphs.
HONORS is expected to FINISH their drafts over the week-end and bring them to school on Tuesday, Jan 19th. We will proofread, edit, and type the final copy in class. it is due by the end of the hour on 1-19.
