Earth Day Fun and “Going on a Bear Hunt”

Happy Earth Day!

I thought this was a cute poem (it’s sunny today in Pellston, MI, I guess it’s cloudy in Dearborn).

I Meant To Do My Work Today

by Richard Le Gallienne

I meant to do my work today,

But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,

And a butterfly flitted across the field,

And all the leaves were calling me.

And the wind went sighing over the land,

Tossing the grasses to and fro,

And a rainbow held out its shining hand–

So what could I do but laugh and go?

I found this poem from this website that has a lot of fun things to do if you are looking for craft ideas, puzzles, poems, coloring sheets, etc. It had some fun stuff on it:  Earth Day Crafts, Worksheets, Games and Activities  It says “Earth Day,” but a lot of the material (like the poem above) is spring/summer related.

HOMEWORK

Remember to do your homework from our virtual classroom meeting on Tuesday.  Please put a stuffed bear in your front window and then “go for a bear hunt” (walk the neighborhood looking for stuffed bears in windows). I will ask you on Thursday at 11 if you saw any bears in the windows!

Have a great Wednesday and I will see you tomorrow at 11!

How to get on Google Meet – edited

****OUR GOOGLE MEET DAYS ARE TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS!  OUR GOOGLE MEET TIMES ARE 11 AM FOR BOTH DAYS!*****

I look forward to seeing everyone! Please mute yourself when you get on so we can hear each other.

GOOGLE MEET RULES:

There are two ways to get on Google Meet, both are through Google Classroom:

  1.  Make sure you are in the “stream” and click on the “meet link.”  Remember to mute when you get on!
  1. Go to “Classwork” and click on the camera (see highlighted areas). Remember to mute when you get on!

The camera button is on the right, the hang up button is in the middle, and the mute button is on the left. When they are turned off they are red.

When the camera and mute button are on they are clear.

Please mute yourself so we can take turns talking and listening. I do know how to mute individual people 😳.

See you at 2!

❤️ Ms Sims

*see Friday’s blog if you still need to log onto Google Classroom!

DuVall Cares to the Core

April 23rd was scheduled to be our District’s Care to the Core Day.  On April 23rd, our district celebrates the way our school communities come together to show that we care about our students and community.  Despite the shutdown, we want to continue this tradition because it is so important to help show that we care for members of our school community during this unprecedented time!  On April 23rd, we are asking students and their families to show our thanks for our first responders, doctors, and nurses who are helping members of our community as we are trying to stop the spread of COVID 19.  Here is what you can do:

  1. Make a sign that thanks our first responders, doctors, and nurses (be creative).
  2. You may take a picture of your child with the sign and send it to your teacher’s email or atteer@dearbornschools.org to have the picture on the DuVall blog.  You may also e-mail the picture to members of our staff/school families who work in local hospitals and will print your picture or message to share with doctors and nurses  in the hospital including Ms. Cibasek’s sister Jamie jamieac07@hotmail.com, Mrs. Moon’s friend Sara sarah.gilbert@stjoeshealth.org  Mrs. Ross’s husband Jeff jeffmross@hotmail.com.  Ms. Sims’ niece, Cate, is an EMT in Ann Arbor. You may forward emails to Cate at hayycate@gmail.com   Ms. Sims’ friend: Renata.rossi@asension.org is a nurse at Providence and Dearborn EMT Wael Gharbie: wgharbie@ci.dearborn.mi.us
  3. Proudly display the sign in a window in your house for first responders, doctors, and nurses in the community to see!

I am very proud of our students and community because we care!  Please stay healthy and safe DuVall families!

A Message from Mr. Attee about the 4th Card Marking

DuVall Continuity of Learning Plan

DuVall Community,

The staff and I miss you all and hope that you and your families are doing well, staying healthy, and staying safe.  As our journey with remote learning continues, our district has created a continuity of learning plan that enhances the remote learning curriculum that is being delivered at DuVall Elementary.  Starting April 20th, some updates will be taking place. Classroom teachers will continue checking in with their classes using Google Hangouts or Class Dojo and there will be at least 2 live or recorded lessons that will be scheduled during the week.  Classroom teachers and Extended Core teachers will be posting office hours on their blog to support families with questions or who need support with the curriculum. Also, a new grading system will be implemented for the 4th marking period in order to provide feedback for the learning that is taking place.  In the updated grading system, the following marks will be used:

Meeting (M):  A student has high participation levels in remote learning, is routinely submitting assignments and completing learning tasks, and is regularly attending check in/ remote learning sessions.

Progressing (P):  A student is submitting most of his or her assignments and attending some of the check ins.

Limited Participation (LP):  A student is rarely or not submitting work, rarely or not attending check-in/ remote learning sessions, or has experienced hardship during the time of instruction.  Support to assist students who are showing limited participation in remote learning will be offered.

Click Here to see a video clip that  helps to explain some of the changes in the 4th marking period.

Extended core classes (Art, Music, Physical Education, and Technology) will now be using the updated grading system for the 4th marking period report cards.  Please check the extended core class blogs for more information regarding learning activities:

Mr. Tapp (Physical Education)  E-Mail:  tappb@dearbornschools.org

Mr. Goecke (Art)    E-Mail: goeckea@dearbornschools.org

Mrs. Meyer (Music)   E-Mail: meyerl@dearbornschools.org

Mr. Keramaris (Music 4th and 5th)   E-Mail: keramae@dearbornschools.org

Mrs. Poisson (Technology)   E-Mail: poissom@dearbornschools.org

During this continuation of remote learning, the DuVall staff and I hope to see you all soon.  We hope that you and your family continue to stay healthy, safe, and Penguin Strong!

Sincerely,

Mr. Attee

4-Find a “study spot,” some place where you will go to do your daily work.  A spot for school work only, no where near the TV or video games, if possible.

5- Create a schedule to follow every week day. Still get up at a set time, do your regular routine as if you were going to school. Then go into your school work.  Following a routine will be VERY helpful especially to children. They need the consistency of a schedule.

BRAIN BREAK IDEAS:

– Mr. Tapp’s blog, go outside if it’s a nice day (practice social distancing), or do “GoNoodle.” It’s free and families can sign up: https://www.gonoodle.com/

-Check Mrs. Meyer’s blog for music ideas

-Mr. Goecke’s blogs for art ideas

– Mr. Neff and Mrs. Poisson’s blogs with have some literacy and technology ideas

– Other resources:

If you have a membership, check out Dearborn Public Libraries. The children can “borrow” new books and they also have movies (including the latest ones that aren’t streaming/on cable yet).
