Students will be evaluated upon the structures and functions of the organelles of the cell. Furthermore, students will distinguish among the works of the several scientists who had contributed to the characteristics of the cell as we know it today.
Homework for Monday: Section 4.2, Defining the Atom
Students are to complete pages 47-49 in their Science Notebook Reading Guide. This topic will reinforce the definition and components of an atom, the work with the cathode ray experiments, Rutherford’s model of the atom, and a summary of the subatomic particles’ characteristics.
Homework for Monday: Chapter 4 Review
Students are to review Chapter 4 by answering the following questions on page 92: #’s 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 21, and 25 as well as 1 through 7 and the short response that are on page 93.
Review Homework on Section 4.4 and Construct a Concept Map on Chapter 4
We will answer and correct our homework on Section 4.4 about the unique features of plant cells. We will then proceed to construct a concept map on the ideas that we have discussed and reinforced in class for the past couple of weeks.
Early ideas About the Atom: A Reinforcement
We will complete answering and correcting our Science Notebook Reading Guide pages 44-46, and then we will reinforce the early ideas about the atom that were put forth by the Greek philosophers, Democritus, Aristotle, and Dalton!
Chapter 4: The Structure of the Atom, Section 4.1 (Early Ideas)
Students will read about the early ideas about the structure of the atom that were put forth by several Greek philosophers/scientists, and they include Democritus, Aristotle, and Dalton. As each student read his/her material, each student needs to complete their Science Notebook Reading Guide pages 44-46 to assist each student in understanding what each is reading about as each is taking notes on the subject matter.
Section 4.3: Cell Organelles and Features
We will discuss, in details, the structures and functions of cell organelles and reinforce said topic through a study guide to facilitate the learning process.
Wednesday, October 17, 2012: Test on Chapter 3
Students will be evaluated upon the states of matter, physical and chemical properties of matter, physical and chemical changes, types of mixtures, methods of mixture separation, an overview of the organization of the Periodic table of the Elements, and how all compounds obey the laws of definite and multiple proportions.
Homework: Chapter 4 Review to Prepare for Chapter 4 Test on Wednesday, October 17, 2012
Students are to complete the assigned questions on Chapter 4 pages 94-96, namely, #’s: 31, 32, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 47, 48, 53, 54, 55, 57, 58, 64, 69, 72, 73, 75, 76, and 77!
Review: Section 3.4 and Reinforce Chapter 4
We will answer and correct our study guide on Section 3.4. Then we will commence with our Chapter 4 review for the chapter test on Wednesday of next week!
