Lab Activity: Periodic Table

Students will identify certain elements based upon their physical and chemical properties as well as be able to read and locate elements in the periodic table in terms of its periods and groups or families, and analyze where each family or group is located based on its energy sublevels/types of orbitals (s, p, d, & f blocks).

Factors Affecting Photosynthesis: Parts 1 and 2

Students will graph and analyze an assigned data to study the rate of photosynthesis, which may vary depending on certain factors such as light intensity and temperature.

In the remaining time, we will review the process of photosynthesis reinforcement activity from yesterday as well as do a question and answer on said topic for further reinforcement.

Section 6.1: Development of the Periodic Table

We will continue our discussion and elaboration upon the major characteristics of the periodic table by examining closely how a scientist can build upon the work of another in order to synthesize the periodic table as we know today, starting with Antoine Lavoisier and John Newlands through the works of Dmitri Mendeleev that culminates with Henry Moseley who finally organized the modern Periodic Table of the Elements as we know it today.

Reading Comprehension Reinforcement: Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration

Students will do a read comprehension assignment that is based upon the process of photosynthesis and elaborate upon it through its significance in our daily lives as they will relate this crucial process to our cellular respiration process that we have briefly discussed, prior to getting into its details as we have done with the photosynthetic process.

Chapter 6, Section1: Development of the Modern Periodic Table

We will continue our journey through the closer examination of the Periodic Table of the Elements through its characteristics in terms of how it had been put together as well as realize the significant work that had been put forth by several scientists that include Henry Moseley and Dmitri Mendeleev. The latter is to whom the arrangement of Periodic Table of the Elements has been credited over the years even though the physicist Henry Moseley had rearranged the table as we currently know it as the modern Periodic table of the Elements.

Class Discussion: The Process of Photosynthesis!

We will discuss and elaborate upon the photosynthetic process that is based upon the variable elements that are involved in this eye-opening accomplishment by certain living things, and that makes it the most important and significant role in the foundation of life on Earth. We will examine this process through its two basic steps of light and dark reactions and relate those steps to other basic life activities that sustain our lives on Earth.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH, 2012: TEST ON VIRUSES AND BACTERIA!

Students will be evaluated upon the characteristics of viruses and bacteria, be familiar with their reproductive processes that we have discussed and reinforced in class, and be able to make a clear distinction between these two in terms of their ongoing existence!

Review: Viruses and Bacteria

We will do a question and answer session on viruses and bacteria as a final preparation for our test on Thursday, the 29th of November 2012.  Students need to review at home tonight their concepts and ideas that are based upon viruses and bacteria along with the several questions on said topic that we have discussed and reinforced in class for the past few days, and be prepared to ask for any clarification of any idea or concept PRIOR TO Thursday’s test.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH, 2012: CHAPTER 5 TEST

Students will be evaluated upon Chapter 5, Electrons in Atoms, that is based upon light and quantized energy, quantum theory and the atom, and the electron configuration of several atoms. Students need to review all pertinent handouts on said topic as a preparation for their chapter test as well as review their short answers that were assigned in their textbook the previous day.
