Section 9.2: Genetic Crosses

We will discuss and elaborate upon the process of the possible production of offspring based upon their parental characteristics as well as we will discuss the various concepts connected with this process such as Punnett square, dominant, recessive, phenotype, genotype, homozygous, heterozygous, phenotypic ratio, and genotypic ratio among several other concepts and ideas that have been put forth through modern genetics.

Homework/Practice: Writing Skeleton Equations

Students who are in need of further practice on converting word equations into skeleton reactions and then balance them should work on question #’s: 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, and 75 pages 312 and 313.

Classwork Section 9.1: Study Guide

Students will have an opportunity to complete their classwork on Mendel’s legacy through a series of analytical questions that are based upon our class discussion as well as Mendel’s findings and conclusions. In the remaining time, students will expand upon the objectives of genetic crosses of Section 9.2 based upon their reading comprehension as we will discuss and elaborate upon these objectives through examples and problem-solving situations in the coming days.

Balancing Word Equation (Cont’d)!

We will elaborate briefly upon the five different types of chemical reactions and continue converting word equations into skeleton equations and balance them. Furthermore, we will classify each chemical equation based on its type, i.e., synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, or combustion.
