Studnets will apply the process of transcription and translation per our class discussion to synthesize several protein molecules as a practice as well as a precursor to our quiz on protein synthesis.
Section 10.4: Protein Synthesis
We will explain the key differences between the DNA and RNA molecules as we segue into the protein synthesis process as we elaborate upon the transcription process that will lead us into the translation process, and thus culminating in the production of a protein molecule, thus the title protein synthesis-Making proteins!
MONDAY, MARCH 18, 2013: TEST: SECTIONS 10.1-10.3: MOLAR CONVERSIONS
Students will be evaluated upon molar conversions in terms of being able to demonstrate their abilities that they can convert moles to particles and vice versa as well as moles to grams and vice versa. As a reminder, students need to practice this weekend on our handouts and past homework assignments as needed.
The DNA Structure and Its Replication Process!
Students will work in groups of three to simulate the structure and replication process of the DNA molecule and have their teacher verify their work for their accuracy. Then they are to describe them in writing for an evaluation of their learning progress on said topic.
Practice/Homework: Molar Mass Conversions for Compounds
Students who feel the need for further practice on molar mass conversions for compounds are to do page 336, #’s: 37, 38, and 39. Also, they are to do page 337, #’s: 40 and 41.
Reinforcement: DNA Replication
Students are to reinforce the characteristics of the DNA replication process by explaining several concepts, elaborate upon the importance of the replication process, and be able to explain the steps that are involved along with the important enzymes that help carry out this crucial process prior to cell division.
Homework: Molar Conversion Using Compounds
Students are to practice upon the molar conversions in their handouts, moles to mass and vice versa, through the use of chemical compounds in addition to elements that we have discussed and reinforced in class and at home.
Section 10.3: DNA Replication
Today, we will discuss and reinforce the process of DNA replication as students will have an opportunity on Friday to demonstrate their comprehension skills of simulating the DNA molecular structure, its replication process, and elaborate upon them in writing!
Homework/Practice: Gram Formula Mass (Molecular Weight)
Students are to practice on the gram formula mass, commonly known as molecular weight/molar mass, by completing their handout as we will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, the application process of molar conversions between mole and mass based on compounds in addition to those of elements.
Homework, Section 10.2: DNA Structure
Students are to complete the study guide on the DNA structure that is due tomorrow at the beginning of the hour. They are to define four different terms and give an example upon each, elaborate upon the characteristics of the DNA molecule in terms of the work of Franklin, Wilkins, Watson, Crick, and Chargaff. Furthermore, they are to identify a few different components of the DNA molecule as we have discussed it and elaborated upon it in class.
