Vocabulary Review!

Students are to review their vocabulary list on igneous rocks that they have completed thus far in class. Remember that you will only be given about 10-15 minutes of class time tomorrow to finish your work as we will move unto sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

Igneous Rocks!

Students are expected to review their notes from today on igneous rocks by talking them out as a way of studying them rather than simply memorizing them. They should go over these notes no less than three times to retain this new information.

Review: Minerals

Students are to review their mineral characteristics as we embark upon the characteristics or features of the three types of rocks, namely, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Students are expected to realize that a small number of minerals make up most of the rocks in nature as we have alluded to several of these minerals in our class discussion thus far.

Mineral/Rock Study!

Students need to review their study guide on the several rocks and minerals that they examined in class this week by going over the characteristics as well as using Google Images to review again the rocks and minerals that were observed in class to retain what these rocks and minerals look like in order to identify them during the test in the coming weeks.

Mineral Groups!

Students are to study their Frayer models on minerals groups as well as the mineral characteristics that we have discussed and reinforced as a concept map in class this week.

Section 4.2: Types of Minerals

Students will explain the illustration of a silica tetrahedron in figures 4.12 and 4.13 as well as identify the different groups of minerals throughout Section 4.2, gives several examples upon each, and state their economic uses in our daily lives.

Their homework is to begin reviewing their newly acquired information today while it is still fresh in their minds.

Mineral Characteristics Concept Map!

Due to the MEAP test process, students are not assigned any specific homework assignment since proper nutrition and early bed rest is the order of the evening to be fully charged for the next day of MEAP testing!

Students may choose to work at home on their class assignment that is a concept map that focuses on the characteristics of minerals such as luster, hardness, streak, magnetism, double refraction, and effervescence among others even though they will be able to complete it in class in our allotted time.

MEAP Reminder!

Students need to get enough rest and go to bed early on Sunday evening so that when Monday night comes, they will get a good night sleep as they wake up Tuesday morning for their MEAP examinations. Be on time!!!!

DO NOT FORGET TO HAVE A NUTRITIONAL BREAKFAST PRIOR TO TUESDAY MORNING EXAMINATIONS SO THAT YOU WILL FOCUS MUCH BETTER ON YOUR TEST AS YOU DO YOUR BEST. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!

Chapter 1 Test & Scientific Method Lab Report!

Students will be evaluated upon Chapter 1 that focuses on the nature of science that includes the scientific method inquiry as well  as the relationship among the Earth’s systems that we have studied, discussed, and reinforced recently.

Lab report Reminder: Students that started their lab activity on time should be able to turn in their reports this Friday; otherwise, you are behind the original schedule. This means you need to wrap up your lab by early next week if you want credit on this report for this marking period that ends October 11, 2013, the deadline for this assignment.
