Students are to complete their T-chart on the different forms of energy as a homework assignment that will be verified in class upon the start of the class period.

If a form of energy is not available in your notes or textbook, you may google it for some assistance but do not copy directly since it will be considered plagiarism!

TEST APRIL 28, 2015: CHAPTER 4: ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

On Tuesday, the students will be evaluated upon Chapter 4: Environmental Problems and Solutions. Students are highly recommended to study their concept map on the problems and the double journal on the solutions as well as the standard study guides for both sections (also known as Directed Reading). Furthermore, make sure that you review the vocabulary activity because all terms may appear on the test on Tuesday.

Double Journal: Environmental Solutions

On-task students will have an opportunity to improve upon their scores as we orally discuss the double journal entries on the basic ideas on environmental solutions. Be prepared to participate by re-reading the section in your textbook, starting on page 84.

Environmental Problems: A Concept Map

Students who did not complete and turn in their concept maps by the bell today will be expected to turn it in during the class time tomorrow, Tuesday, March 31, 2015.

If assignment is not turned in by Tuesday, March 31, 2015, partial credit only will be granted unless the student has a EXCUSED DOCUMENTED absence!

In addition to having our test on Currents and Climate on Thursday, March 25th, 2015, students will have a small opportunity in class to complete their project if they have not finished and/or been graded on it.

Mini-Project: A Comparative Study of El Nino and La Nina

Students will research and work in pairs to compare and/or contrast the effects of El Nino and La Nina cycles on weather patterns, the land, and living things. Furthermore, each student will suggest and attempt to answer four questions that would help others understand these cycles.

Note that if a student were absent during the classwork, s/he will do the work independently as a homework assignment due in two school days; otherwise, one full grade will be deducted for every late day after the two school days that are given to the student.

TEST: THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 2015: CURRENTS AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON CLIMATE

Students will be evaluated upon ocean currents and their impact on climate over time. Students will be tested upon surface and deep ocean currents in terms of their temperature, salinity, and density. Moreover, students will show their understanding of the Coriolis effect and how currents along with global winds behave on Earth. Furthermore, students will elaborate upon the effect of El Nino and La Nina on land and living things.

As has become standard, students are highly recommended to study their class notes, double journal entries on currents, and both of their study guides on currents and currents’ influence on climate over time.

TEST: THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2015: CLIMATE AND TEMPERATURE CONVERSIONS

Students will be evaluated upon Chapter 3, Section 1: What Is Climate?

It is highly recommended that students study the set of 20 questions that were assigned, answered, and corrected in class as well as study and review their directed reading as it summarizes the section with key points.  Moreover, students can go over the review questions in the text on page 81, (1-10), for more reinforcement. Furthermore, students are expected to convert temperatures from the Celsius scale to the Fahrenheit scale and vice versa.

Remember to convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius, use:

°C = 5/9 * (°F – 32)

And to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit, use:

°F = (9/5 * °C) + 32

Weather and Climate Essay: Due March 9th, 2015

Students need to have their essay on weather and climate turned in by Monday, March 9th, 2015 in order to receive full credit.

Do remember that it must be typed per our class discussion and must have at least the standard 5-paragraph format with the central focus on the thesis statement per our class discussion and the sample that was given to each student several weeks ago!

Note: This assignment can influence each student’s grade by one full mark since it is not only a school initiative but a district one!
