FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2015 TEST: CHAPTER 2: ROCKS: MINERAL MIXTURES

Students will be evaluated upon the rock cycle in terms of how rocks form over time, and how they can change from one type of rock into another.

As has become a standard, students are highly advised to study their class notes, any handouts that they have been given on the material, and redo their review questions orally as a means of practice to be better prepared for the test.

Writing Prompt: A rock tends to go through many changes based on several processes. Discuss the rock cycle with a focus on how these processes tend to influence any rock in nature over time.

The Rock Cycle: A 5-Paragraph Essay!

Students will have the opportunity to complete their 5-paragraph essay on the rock cycle per our class discussion as they have had the opportunity to work on the introduction of the essay in class today, Monday, the 26th of October, 2015. Tomorrow, students will need to be, as usual, active participants in order to have a successful outcome.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2015: TEST ON MINERAL/ROCK IDENTIFICATION AND THE ROCK CYCLE ESSAY!

Mineral/Rock ID Test:

Students will be evaluated upon the identification of the minerals and rocks that they have studied late last week. They will be asked to observe and state the names of ten (10) different minerals and/or rocks from their list that they prepared in class last week.

Students are highly advised to review these rocks and minerals by observing them again online through Google Images to refresh their memories of what they have studied in class.

Essay: The Rock Cycle

Students will write a 5-paragraph essay on the rock cycle that will be based upon the igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks that tend to undergo the processes of the cooling and solidification of the magma over time, the uplifting process, weathering and erosion, deposition, compaction, cementation, changes due to higher temperature and pressure, and eventually melting over time should the rock touch the hot liquid rock known as magma.

Study of Minerals and Rocks (Cont’d)

Students will complete their study of minerals and rocks and review for their ID test on them on Monday. Students need to come prepared tomorrow to participate actively and ask any pertinent questions that they may have about the said topic!

Study of Sedimentary Rocks!

Students are advised to review their class notes on sedimentary rocks to be better prepared for classwork tomorrow prior to our lab activity on the identification study of minerals and rocks.

Note: If you are absent tomorrow and/or Thursday, note that we will be having an ID test on these minerals and rocks on Monday, the 26th of October 2015.

Study of Igneous Rocks!

Students need to review their class notes daily as in this case, igneous rocks, to be better prepared for any classwork that we may have the next day as well as be better prepared for the next chapter test in the near future.

The Rock Cycle!

Students are highly recommended to review their class notes on the rock cycle as well as read Chapter 2, Section 1 on said topic to be better prepared for any bellwork that they may have as their graded classwork.

Note that this coming week, we will be studying, in details, the different types of rocks as well as do an activity to better understand how rocks are usually classified.

Students who did not finish their graphic organizer on the concepts and/or ideas on the rock types will be able to refer to the attachment on the concepts or ideas that were not completed!

Chapter 1 Minerals Test Corrections!

Students will have an opportunity to improve upon their scores by making the necessary test corrections that will allow them to better their scores by one letter grade.
