REMINDER: Mini-Project: Rivers

For those students who did NOT complete their project on Friday, you have until Sunday at 6:00 pm before it starts to be considered late, and you lose one letter grade for each day  the project is late.

Note that nothing will be accepted on Wednesday morning, as the three-day late period will have expired.

On a far more serious note, check your grades for the third marking period AND check where you stand for the whole year thus far, by clicking on AND off the box in the upper right-hand corner of Student/Parent-Connect so that you know where you are for the school year AND the marking period 3. Remember that when the box is checked, it means for the whole year, and if you unchecked it, it shows you the current marking period.

Review: The Active River and Stream/River Deposits

Students are highly advised to STUDY their Cornell notes as well as their teacher’s supplemental notes along with the section review questions on Section 1 and 2 in Chapter 1, The Flow of Freshwater. This is important to do since we will not be having a chapter test next week due to the NWEA testing process. However, we will continue with our chapter on Monday with Section 3, Water Underground.

As a suggestion, the teacher recommends that the students go online and preview or look over the key concepts and ideas of Section 3, since some of them may appear on the NWEA, as we are a bit behind in the subject matter.

Frayer Models: The Flow of Freshwater

Students are to create a Frayer model on each of the following terms.

The due date for this assignment will be on the day that we do our standard chapter review, the day before the test.

Therefore, do not wait until the last day to get started on the work. Do 2-3 terms daily, and pace yourself so that you do not feel overwhelmed with the required work.

Jeopardy Game: Inside the Restless Earth

ATTENTION HOURS 1 & 3: Since you are ahead of the other two sections, you will wrap up your study of the Inside of Restless Earth by briefly looking back on what you have learned through the creation and participation of a two-day assignment of a Jeopardy game that will encompass all the topics that have been learned, discussed and reinforced for the past few months, and those include minerals, rocks, plate tectonics, earthquakes , and volcanoes.

On Day 1, students will create a series of five categories, devise five (5) responses for each category as well as write down the possible/projected question for each response.  On Day 2, students will be divided into groups at their tables and rotate and play the game as they will collect points for their correct responses (questions). The points that are collected by each group will be granted to each member of that group as EXTRA points for a maximum total of fifteen (15) points. The group that attains the fifteen (15) points first will be declared the winner, as we will move on to the new material-Water on Earth- after the game. But note that each group that has collected any points, each member of that group will get to keep those points as extra credit as well. In other words, there shall be no losers in this educational game!

2) Students are to study the key concepts and ideas in the chapter that were selectively reinforced by the creation of the Frayer models.

3) Students are to study the end of each section because there are a series of reinforcement review questions to help them determine how well they understand the ideas and concepts in that section. Go over ALL of them in each section.

4) Students are to check the iblog for any previous attachments that are related to the chapter only, dating back to December 13, 2016 since the classroom teacher has informed the students that they are responsible for any posting and to stay up-to-date on the iblog postings.

Mini-Project: Volcanoes

Each student will have an opportunity to select a volcano around the world, research it, and discuss it based on a series of criteria that are given in class by creating a PowerPoint on said topic. The duration of this assignment is estimated to last no more than two class periods. This is considered a summative classwork, unless there are extenuating circumstances to be completed at home. Note that each student will be able to earn up to fifteen (15) summative points, which equates to a half of a chapter test score.
