Chapter 3, Section 1, Ocean Currents: A Concept Map Sample

Students feel free to print, read, and study the following sample of a concept map on the surface of ocean currents, since you will be expected to follow a similar pattern of critical thinking to elaborate on Section 2, Currents and Climate, in class later on this week; and thus you will be able to create your own concept maps in future endeavors when you are asked to do so in other disciplines!

Attention 6th Hour Only: How Does Temperature Affect Density?

Since 8 of you chose to dilly-dally and not do the required work, as you waited for the answers from the teacher, this activity will be part of your test next week. Do go over it tonight, since it is still fresh in your mind, along with the graph that many of you chose to ignore rather than get it done like most other students in the other sections.

BE ABLE TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

Analyze a given set of data and graph it based on temperature versus volume, a component of density. Then be able to carry out a few mathematical calculations, as a review of density, and draw a conclusion based on your findings in terms of the relationship between the given variables.

Reinforcement: Using Water Wisely

Students will reinforce Chapter 1, Section 4, Using Water Wisely by answering a series short answer questions and turn it in for an evaluation as a means of preparation for our chapter test this coming Friday.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 03, 2017 CHAPTER TEST: THE FLOW OF FRESHWATER

Students will be evaluated upon Chapter 1, The Flow of Freshwater, that focuses on the Active River, River and Stream Deposits, Water Underground, and Using Water Wisely.

What to study? What to study? What to study?

1) Students are very highly recommended to study their created Cornell notes as well as their strategy of choice for Section 4, Using Water Wisely, that have been supplemented by the teacher’s PowerPoint notes.

2) Students are to study the key concepts and ideas in the chapter that were selectively reinforced by the creation of the Frayer models.

3) Students are to study the end of each section, because there are a series of reinforcement review questions to help them determine how well they understand the ideas and concepts in that section. Go over ALL of them in each section, as well as the chapter review that we normally complete on the day before the test.

4) Students are to check the iblog for any previous attachments that are related to the chapter only, dating back to January 12, 2017 since the classroom teacher has informed the students that they are responsible for any posting and to stay up-to-date on the iblog postings.

Chapter 1, Section 4: Using Water Wisely

Since students have requested to create their own notes, they are to choose one of the following strategies to create those notes:

  1. R.A.N. Strategy
  2. L.I.N.K. Strategy
  3. K.W.L Strategy
  4. Oral Retelling Strategy
  5. Interactive Cornell Notes Strategy
  6. Double Journal Entry Strategy

These strategies were reviewed today (Friday) in class to refresh students’ memories, since many students may have forgotten one or more of these previously acquired strategies.

Chapter 1, Section 3, Cornell Notes: Water Underground

Students who did not complete their Cornell notes in class, need to do so at home tonight, since these notes will become part of your study guide for the chapter test next week. Furthermore, keep in mind to create six (6) questions based on Costa’s Levels of Thinking and Questioning. Make sure you devise three (3) questions on level 2 and three (3) questions on level 3.
