Unit 8.7: The Mayor’s Letter Simulation (For those of you who did not make copies of your previous work, as you were asked to do so)

Unit Challenge Scenario: Claim #1 below is in this week’s assignment for your analysis.

 “8th Graders,

I need your help for our great community. I’ve heard many people having discussions regarding the following claims:

  1. Global temperatures are rising, and they are rising faster than in the past.
  2. A change in climate will have an impact on our community.
  3. The actions we take impact our environment.

I need you to investigate these claims so that we can better prepare for our future. We need to know if there will be negative impacts on people and the environment. If there will be impacts, we need to know whether we can do something to reduce those impacts.

I am challenging you to educate people about how Earth’s climate system works, what causes global climate to change, if people and the natural environment will be impacted, and what we can do about it. I look forward to hearing your recommendations about what we should do.

This challenge is being given to all 8th graders in the city.  I will use the winning recommendations in my annual “state of the city” speech to our community.

Good luck and thank you for your work to help our community become even greater!

Sincerely,

The Mayor”

Time extended for Assignments #10 & #11

Moving forward, you need to start planning accordingly, i.e., if you tend to do most of your school work in the evening rather than during the daytime hours, pay close attention to your Friday evenings, because after midnight, your work will be considered officially LATE!

General Resources: Leisure Activities

“We hope you and your families have enjoyed the weekend! Here is your weekly update that new content is available for this coming week. It is also important to note that we are launching Ramadan specific content this week that will continue throughout the holy month. Please make sure that families are aware of this new addition! The number of families we are reaching continues to grow and we are now over 6,000 content views across the elementary and middle school level!! Please continue to help us disseminate this information widely! We are so excited to see that these resources have been useful, making everyone’s days of ‘social distancing’ a little bit healthier.”

Unit 8.7 (New Unit): Global Climate Change

Assignment # 10 & #11 are up in Google Classroom. Remember that you have one week to complete the assignments and their due date is Friday, May 01, 2020 at 3:00 pm.

MAKE COPIES OF ASSIGNMENTS BECAUSE YOU WILL NEED ASSIGNMENT #10 FOR ASSIGNMENT #11.

Avoid waiting until the last minute on Friday to get busy on them. This tends to cause you to rush through the work and make poor mistakes that will prove to be costly.

For most of you without pre-set or determined circumstances, there are 24 hours left for you to complete this assignment. Otherwise, it will be considered late. As you know, late means one letter grade less. DO NOT FORGET TO SUBMIT THE ASSIGNMENT!
