Attention Absent Students on Thursday, November 08, 2018

The following attachment represents the mathematical relationships that we have been learning about in Newton’s Second Law of Motion. Review and study the following if you were absent on Thursday, November 08, 2018.

Annotational Homework: Combining Forces

Students are to complete their annotational homework on Combining Forces, and answer in complete sentences the four (4) questions that follow at the end of the article.

This is due by Wednesday, November 7th, 2018, as the classroom teacher will verify and score your work during your class period.

HOMEWORK FOR HOURS 2, 5, & 6: FINDING ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS

Each student is expected to complete the student activity worksheet that was assigned for the video on The Future of Energy as it will become part of your Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) for the summative score on your ISN. On Friday, tomorrow, the classroom teacher will check this particular assignment, since it will be a part of the summative score. If it is not done, it will automatically be marked in red pen and result in a loss of one (1) summative point.

Remember that summative points move the grade far more than formative points.

Lab Activity: Tablecloth Challenge

Focus Question:

How can a tablecloth be pulled off a set table without breaking anything?

Draw: Using technical writing tool visuals:

What you observed before & what you observed afterwards.

  • Draw your item placement.
  • Document what happens before and after pulling the tablecloth.
  • Explain why you thought that happened (see guiding questions).
  • Change just one variable at a time for each trial.
  • Complete 2 more trials.                                                                                                                                                                             Tablecloth Guiding Questions
    • Which objects moved more than others?
    • What characteristic about the object caused it to move?
    • Why did the objects fall in some cases?
    • Which objects stayed put?
    • What characteristic about the object prevented movement?

SPEED TEST MAKEUPS AND RETAKES DATES: READ BELOW!

Students who decided to avoid taking the test on Friday, October 26, 2018, your only other option to take it is Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 3:05 pm, with no retakes, since your makeup test will serve as the actual test/retake score. THIS TIME your only excuse to avoid earning a zero is a doctor’s note for the scheduled time of the test, a pm court date, or a note from the funeral home for death in the family.

Those students who scored below 7.5/12 and wish to retake the test, your retake test date is Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 3:05 pm. Remember that retakes and makeups are usually a different format of the original test per our district’s option for teachers. But, of course, it will be on the same material. Therefore, review your material over the next few days, since you maybe out and about trick or treating during Halloween night, the night before the retake of the test. Avoid waiting and procrastinating until late night on Wednesday to get ready for your retake. Plan accordingly!

NO MAKEUPS NOR RETAKES WILL BE DONE THIS COMING FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2018, AS WAS MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY IN CLASS, IN CASE YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN!

Homework: Force & Motion Frayer Models

Students: Make sure all nine (9) Frayer models are completed by Monday’s class time. Remember that your ISN is graded as a summative score. Every missing term (incomplete term) that you may have will result in a loss of one (1) summative point.

Create a Frayer model on each of the following terms.

FORCE

ENERGY

FRICTION

MASS

MOMENTUM

NEWTON’S FIRST LAW OF MOTION ( Law of Inertia)

PHYSICS

TRAJECTORY

SPEED TEST: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2018

Students will be evaluated upon their problem-solving skills in terms of determining the variables of speed, distance, and time in various situations.

Students are highly advised to review their handouts that were assigned last week on these problem-solving situations, i.e., students need to practice on their own on solving these problems again as a review, and if they have any question, they need to bring it to the class before Friday’s test to be addressed effectively. No questions will be discussed or answered during the day of the test on Friday.

REMEMBER:     S=D/T;       D=S * T;       T=D/S

Remember the units for each variable: Speed is calculated through meters/second or kilometers/hour or kilometers/minute.

Remember that distance is measured by kilometers, or meters, or centimeters, or millimeters (These are the most common units for measuring distance.)

Remember that time is measured through either hours, minutes or seconds. Also, remember that one minute equals sixty (60) seconds and one hour equals sixty (60) minutes.
