Students will be evaluated upon the fundamentals of genetics in terms of the work that was put forth by Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics, as well as the application of modern genetics as it has been discussed, elaborated upon, and put into practice in class for the past couple of weeks.
Molar-Mass Conversions Homework!
Students are to do problems on page 328, #’s: 15b & 16b. Also, students are to do problems on page 329, #17a, 17b, 18a, & 18b.
Note that a quiz to follow on Friday of this week on the above material. So, practice, practice, practice!
Review: Fundamentals of Genetics
Students will review the fundamentals of genetics that are based upon Mendel’s work in terms of creating a concept map through the given clues as well as do a brief assessment of the subject matter as a test preparation.
Furthermore, as a homework assignment, students are to do the following questions on page 188, #’s: 1, 8, 10, 11, 12, & 14. Also, on page 189, do #’s: 1 through 6 (write the letter only) and the short response.
Mole-Particle Conversions & Mole-Mass Conversions
Due to their on-going mathematics skills’ struggle, the students will be evaluated upon their abilities to convert from moles to particles and vice versa.
After the 15-min quiz, we will explain, elaborate, and practice upon molar mass, and learn how to convert from moles to mass and vice versa.
Analyzing Experiments in Genetics: Reinforcement
Students will read a given set of data from Mendel’s work that is based upon tracking one charateristic and analyze its results based upon Punnett square by examining the genotypes and phenotypes of the F1 & F2 generations.
Measuring Matter!
Students are to complete homework assignment on page 324, #’s: 5 & 6
Furthermore, students are to read Sec.10.2 on the conversion of mass to moles and vice versa.
Genetic Crosses
Students will elaborate upon the processes of genetic crosses of monohybrid and dihybrid crosses that are based upon one and two tracked characteristics repectively in a Punnett square.
Furthermore, students will synthesize several of the ideas and concepts that have been discussed and elaborated upon through a concept map, and if time permits, they will do a brief assessment.
The Mole
Define the term “mole”, and elaborate upon how a mole is related to the number of particles of matter.
Show the process of converting between moles and number of representative particles through the application of scientific notations as Avogadro’s number, 6.02 x10²³, plays a key role in this conversion process.
Genetics Lab Review & Section 9.2 Reinforcement
Students will review and correct their lab activity “Passing Traits from Generation to Generation”.
Furthermore, students will reinforce the characteristics of Mendel’s work in terms of the key ideas and concepts that are associated with modern genetics that is based upon Punnett square that entails figuring out gametes from parental generation based on the parents’ genotypes for one and possibly two traits, doing a Punnett square, and analyzing the results of the offspring in terms of the genotypic and phenotypic ratios.
Quiz: Predicting, balancing, & writing word equations
Students will be evaluated upon their abilities to predict the product(s) of a chemical reactant(s). Balance the chemical reaction. Then they are to express the chemical equation into words.
