Students are to review the concepts and ideas that we have discussed in class on chromosomes and inheritance. We will reinforce these concepts further in class upon students’ return from the Easter break.
Inheritance Patterns & Human Genetics
Students will distinguish between sex chromosomes and autosomes, the role of chromosomes in sex determination, how an X- or Y- linked gene influences the characteristics of inheritance, the result of crossing-over based upon the genes that are in linkage groups, and differentiate between mutations of the chromosomal type compared to those mutations that occur in genes.
Mole Ratios!
Students will practice on mole ratio application since mole ratios show the relationships between the quantity of reactants and those of the products, i.e., stoichiometry.
Chapter 10 Test: DNA, RNA, & Protein Synthesis
Students will be evaluated on Wednesday, APRIL 4TH, upon the scientific discovery of the inherited genetic material, DNA, its structure, its replication process, as well as its significance in the process of protein synthesis that is based upon the processes of transcription and translation.
Chapter 10 Review
Students and teacher will answer and discuss the remaining set of questions as a precusor to Chapter 10 test on Wednesday. If time permits, we will view the process of protein synthesis (transcription and translation) as one last reinforcement.
Chapter 11: Stoichiometry, Section 1
Students will use their prior knowledge in learning to describe the types of relationships shown by a chemical equation and state the mole ratios from any balanced chemical reaction.
Chapter 10: A Comprehensive Review
Since we have agreed on the fact that students are to be evaluated on one section at a time, we will review Chapter 10, The Mole, because it is the basis for our next chapter on stoichiometry.
Project: DNA Presentation!
On Monday, each student will have an opportunity to present his/her DNA molecule to the class. Each student will explain the DNA structure AS WELL AS its replication process. Each student was given a rubric outline for the evaluation process.
Retake Test on Sections 10.1, 10.2, &10.3
A certain number of students will be given an opportunity to improve their past performance on molar coversions. Students need to practice on converting moles to particles and vice versa as well as moles to grams and vice versa.
Test: Making Proteins
Students will be evaluated upon the process of making protein molecules by following three given sets of data.
