TEST: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2019: Comparing Solutions Using a Decision Matrix

Students: This is a reminder from our class discussion that this coming Monday, we will be having an open-notebook test on the above lesson to determine how well you have been on-task and understood what was taking place in class. Since it is an open-notebook, there will be NO retakes, because you should have everything you need to know in your notebook.

The classroom teacher highly recommends that each student looks over his/her notebook to make sure that all the necessary materials learned are in there. Otherwise, check with your classmates for any missing information BEFORE Monday morning, since no notebook sharing will be allowed during the test, and it will be considered cheating during the test.

Homework: Due Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019: Loosestrife Plant – C.E.R.

Individual students cast their vote on a piece of paper. Present the following on the paper:

  1. Claim: _____________ is the best solution for addressing the loosestrife problem.
  2. Evidence: (Students provide evidence by providing the scores of the solutions and identifying the one with the highest score)
  3. Reasoning: There can be multiple solutions to a problem. The best solution to a problem can be identified by systematically evaluating solutions based on specific criteria and constraints. The solution with the highest score in the decision matrix is the solution that best meets our criteria and constraints.

Test Credit Recovery

Students who performed poorly or below the seventy percentile (70%) on today’s test will have an opportunity to have a partial credit recovery by making and verifying with the classroom teacher their test corrections.

Those students are highly advised to review their notes tonight on the several characteristics or variables of what a good system model is!

Attention: Concert Lovers!

Hello,

The DSO is offering a free concert at the FCPAC on Sept. 22 at 3:00.

Concert Description:

On Sunday, September 22 at 3 PM, the DSO will give a free performance at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, sponsored by the DTE Energy Foundation. Across all of its 2019-2020 programming, the DSO celebrates the centennial of Orchestra Hall, built in 1919 as the first permanent home of the orchestra. From 1941-1951, Orchestra Hall became the Paradise Theatre, a celebrated venue for jazz and blues artists. The 2019-2020 season also marks the 20th anniversary of the DSO’s Paradise Jazz Series, which takes its name from Orchestra Hall’s ten-year history as the Paradise Theatre.

Join conductor Jacob Joyce as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra celebrates the centennial of Orchestra Hall, featuring works performed during the Orchestra’s first season at Orchestra Hall. The DSO pays tribute to the hall’s jazz roots with a performance of Duke Ellington Fantasy, a nod to the Paradise Theatre’s earliest concerts, which included a date featuring Duke Ellington just four weeks after the venue opened.

TEST – TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2019: Inquiry – Systems & System Models with Observations and inferences

Next Tuesday, students will have an evaluation based on their observations and inferences of certain concepts or ideas by using a test diagram and relate it to the variables or the characteristics of a good system model.

Is the Rube Goldberg Machine one system, a bunch of systems, or
both? Why?

How are the parts of YOUR model (the components) related to one
another?

Why did you include the parts you did?
Which parts of your model come from a previous step?
Which parts of your model leave to start the next step?
