Human Genetics
Students will elaborate upon human genetics in terms of analyzing a pedigree, distinguishing between a sex-influenced trait and a sex-linked trait. Furthermore, students will be able to differentiate between traits that are caused by a multiple allele as compared to … Continue reading
Human Genetics
Students will review the behavior of chromosomes and their effects upon offspring and elaborated upon human genetics in terms of their abilities to explain a pedigree and patterns of inheritance. They will also elaborate upon polygenic and complex characters as … Continue reading
Inheritance Patterns & Human Genetics
Students will distinguish between sex chromosomes and autosomes, the role of chromosomes in sex determination, how an X- or Y- linked gene influences the characteristics of inheritance, the result of crossing-over based upon the genes that are in linkage groups, … Continue reading
Project: DNA Presentation!
On Monday, each student will have an opportunity to present his/her DNA molecule to the class. Each student will explain the DNA structure AS WELL AS its replication process. Each student was given a rubric outline for the evaluation process.
Review Sec. 10.1, 10.2, & 10.3
Due to the students’ on-going struggle with mathematical relationships, they will review and reinforce measuring matter, and mass-mole conversions in elements and compounds by practicing on the following problems on pages 358-360: 91a, 92b, 93a, 108c, 109c, 138a, & 138b.
Percent Composition & Empirical Formula
Students will learn and reinforce the process of figuring out how to determine the empirical formula that is based upon the percent composition of the chemicals in a compound. Note that the percent composition is basically a prior knowledge since … Continue reading
Mole-Mass Conversions Retake!
Since several students in the 2nd and 3rd hours performed poorly on the test for mole-mass conversion, these two classes will be given an opportunity for a retake. Those individuals who performed very well or above average will have the choice … Continue reading
DNA Structure
We will discuss the structure and the importance of the DNA molecule as it was put forth Watson and Crick who based their work upon the X-ray diffraction’s of Rosalind Franklin, who was able to recognize that the DNA molecule … Continue reading
Reinforcement: Discovery of DNA
Students will reinforce the discovery of the DNA by elaborating further upon the works of Griffith, Avery, & Hershey-Chase.
Discovery of DNA
Students are to make a 3-column T-Chart that is based upon the scientific work that was put forth by Frederick Griffith, Oswald Avery & colleagues, and Martha Chase & Alfred Hershey. In the first column, the students will state the … Continue reading
