Students will elaborate upon human genetics in terms of identifying different genetic disorders and give examples upon them. Moreover, they will analyze a pedigree, complex characters, and elaborate upon how certain traits are passed on to the next generation through individuals known as carriers. Furthermore, they will distinguish between sex-linked and sex-influenced as well as be able to solve critically a genetic problem to determine the blood types and the genotypes of the parents and the offspring. Additionally, they will examine the role of genetic counselors as these medical professionals explain to prospective couples who wish to conceive a child through the genetic screening processes known as amniocentesis or chorionic villi sampling that can aid the couple to make informed decision about having an offspring or the proper steps to take in order to have a child throughout their relationship.
