Bellwork reviewed graphing parabolas using Standard Form for the equation of a quadratic and finding the maximum value of a function and when it occurs.

The remainder of the period we discussed situations that could be modeled with a quadratic and how to find values that maximize a certain quantity (sec 5-2).  We then began our discussion on Vertex Form for the equation of a quadratic (Sec 5-3).

Hwk #12 is due tomorrow.

Hwk #13 will be due on Thursday, October 17.  Students are to use the sheet I’ve provided.

Bellwork reviewed graphing quadratics of the form  y=ax^2+c and finding the LOS and Vertex of a quadratic.

The remainder of the period we discussed how to graph y=ax^2+bx+c and finding the maximum or minimum value of a function and when this value occurs (Sec 5-2).

Hwk #11 is due today.

Hwk #12 is due on Friday.  Students are to use the sheet provided for Hwk #12.

Bellwork had students practice on ACT math questions.

The remainder of the period we discussed how the Standard Form of a Quadratic Function (Sec 5-1,2) can be used to find the Vertex, LOS, and the y-intercept.  These were then used to graph a parabola using five points.

Hwk #11 is due tomorrow.

Bellwork had students practice skills they will be using during Chapter 5.

The remainder of the period we focused on the characteristics of Quadratic Equations and their graphs,Parabolas (Sec 5-1).  We discussed the relationship between the Vertex and the Line of Symmetry (LOS).

Students also learned to find the equation of a quadratic given 3 or more points by either writing a system of equations and solving using matrices or by performing a Quadratic Regression.

Hwk #10 is due today.

Students were given the homework assignments for Chapter 5.

Hwk #11 is due on Wednesday.

Bellwork had students investigate the graph of a parabola and how the graph is affected by changing some values in the equation.

The remainder of the period we continued this discussion on parabolas so that students could graph a parabola from a given equation and write the equation if the graph is given.

We also did some short review for tomorrow’s test.

No homework is due today.

Bellwork had students explore graphs of absolute value functions.

The remainder of the period we discussed how changing the values in the absolute value equation y=a|x-h|+k affects the graph and how the graph could be created quickly by knowing these affects.

We also worked on an example problem from sec 3-4.

Hwk #8 is due today.

Hwk #9 is due tomorrow.
