Bellwork reviewed graphing quadratics and writing the equation of a quadratic given the graph or given the vertex and one other point on the graph.

Hwk #15 is due today.

The remainder of the period we began discussing Sec 5-1, Quadratic Functions and Standard Form of a Quadratic Function.

Hwk #16 is due on Friday, Pages 241-242, Problems 12, 14, 18, 19, 21, 22, 33, 37

Bellwork reviewed how to find y-intercepts for any function, how to graph an Absolute Value function and how to write the equation of  the graph of an Absolute Value function.

The remainder of the period we discussed how to graph and write equations for Quadratic Functions (sec 5-3).

Hwk #15 is due tomorrow, Pages 255-257, Problems 2, 3, 9, 19-21, 25, 43, 47, 70 (graph paper needed).

Bellwork reviewed ACT style math questions.

The remainder of the period we discussed transformations of the Parent Absolute Function y = |x| which takes the following form:  y = a|x – h| + k

We used this function to begin discussing transformations of the parent Quadratic Function y = x^2 (sec 5-3).

Hwk #15 is due on Wednesday:  Pages 255-257, Problems 2, 3, 9, 19-21, 25, 43, 47, 70.  Students are to use graph paper to graph the quadratics.

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Bellwork reviewed a linear programming problem (sec 3-4).

Hwk #14 is due today.

The remainder of the period we discussed graphs of Absolute Value Functions, y = a|x| and how changing the value of the coefficient of a affects the graph.  This skill will be applied to graphs of quadratic functions in Chapter 5.

The Chapter 3 Test will be Frdiay.

Bellwork had students work on a problem from Sec 3-4, Linear Programming, which we discussed yesterday.

The remainder of the period students worked on practice problems from Sec 3-4.

Hwk #14 is due tomorrow.

The test over Chapter 3 will be on Friday.

Today’s bellwork introduced students to questions that are similar to ones that they may see on the ACT which will be in March of 2015 for Juniors and Spring of 2016 for Sophomores.

Hwk #13 is due today.

The remainder of the period we began our discussion of Linear Programming, Sec 3-4.

Hwk #14:  Pages 142-143, Problems 2, 3, 5, 6, 11, 20.  This will be due on Wednesday 10/15 and requires the use of graph paper.
