Are you looking for me? I will be attending the Open House event at Nowlin Elementary School this Thursday, September 12, 2019, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Please come on down to classroom 28 and say “hello”.
Becker Band and Violin Students
Students who are hoping to participate in band or violin class this year were given a paper to take home for parent signature. Those papers need to be returned to Mrs. Reed’s mailbox at Becker Elementary School before 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019. All of the students who have returned the papers will be invited to meet with Mrs. Reed Wednesday morning for instrument fittings. Once a child has met for fittings I will send a few more documents home for parents to read and sign. If you would like a head start on reading the papers you may open them from these links:
Student/Parent Contract for Success
We are looking forward to a successful instrumental music program again this year. If you have questions please contact me.
A New School Year Has Begun
We are off to a great start for the school year 2019-2020! Two of my building locations have remained the same and one has changed. This year I am happy to continue teaching general music at Maples Elementary and Instrumental music at Becker. My new location is Nowlin Elementary school. I will be teaming with 3 other general music teachers as we share the joy of music to K-5 classes as well as an after school Honors Choir program.
To all my former students; leave a comment or stop by and say, “hello”. I would love to hear about your educational adventures.
Master Pin!
This young musician from Howard School continues to strive toward excellence! He has been awarded the Master Pin in band this week. Now he is working hard on the Bonus Pin songs. Great work!

We are so proud of our Howard Band and Poms Squad. They all did a fantastic job marching and performing in the Cleanup Day Parade and at the Assembly. We even had a photo taken with Mayor O’Reilly!
If you took photos and would like to share them with me please send them to my email address: reedc@dearbornschools.org

Howard Band and Violin Info
Band students who are able to play Lightly Row and Old MacDonald from memory will be marching in the clean up day parade on Monday. This will have no negative bearing on a student’s grade. Those who are marching in the band or performing with the pom squad (violin students) will be given a Howard Sweater today. Please read care instructions before washing the sweater. Students will need to wear something under the sweater during the parade since I will ask for it to be returned immediately after the parade.
We will not meet for band or violin next week Thursday due to 5th grade camp. We will meet at our regularly scheduled class times on Thursday, May 30, for Music Olympic challenges. On that day all school owned instruments and books will be returned to me at the end of class.
It has been a great pleasure to work with your children this year.

While we were getting ready for our 4th and 5th grade concert at Becker Elementary School we were surprised by a visit by our Super Intendent. The violin class and I got to pose with the Students First sign. Here it is for you all to see. 😀
The 4th and 5th grade students did a great job performing at their music concert on Thursday afternoon.
