Feeling Thankful

I have taught in Dearborn Public Schools since 1996 and have been in so many different buildings. My life has been touched by the various students and staff I have crossed paths with – too numerous to count. This year the blessings just keep piling on. Each day brings new moments of joy. Thank you to each student who has blessed me with a smile, a kind word, or a beautiful song. Thank you to each one of my colleagues who has shared words of encouragement, given a helping hand, offered support in the classroom, repaired equipment, cleaned my room, or even just stopped by to check on my well-being. You have all blessed my day.

Here is a little Thankful Foot Stomp for you to enjoy. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

A Donors Choose Project for our Special Education Students

Please help us reach our funding goals so we can add some safe instrument choices for our special education students. Share this link with friends and family members who might be interested in making a small donation, too. Here is a link to click on to make a donation and also to share with friends:

Moving and Grooving

Join the “GivingTuesday” celebration! On November 29th, donations to every live, approved project will be DOUBLED. This would be a great day to make a donation for help us reach our goal very quickly.

Thank you for your support.

Howe Montessori students in grades 3, 4, & 5

All of Howe Montessori students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will need to have their own recorder for our Spring Concert. We will be performing a musical with a recorder theme. Letters were sent home this week with all students. If your child did not bring a letter home please print this letter and return it to the classroom teacher with the necessary amount of cash in an envelope. If your child already owns a recorder please have them bring the instrument in to school to show it to me. The recorder must be of a good quality and approved by me, the music teacher. If you have any questions please contact me before Nov. 28, 2022.

November Activities

Some of the things the Kindergartners have been learning in music is how to use a singing voice using high and low sounds (So and Mi), and the 4 voices (whisper, talk, shout, and sing).

The students are singing a So Mi song while playing a fun game.
Using Finger Puppets to have conversations while using whisper voices and singing voices.

Thanksgiving themed fruit rhythms

Each group of students have a plate of fruit. They take turns selecting 4 pieces of fruit, place it in their desired order, and everyone claps and says the rhythm pattern.

Some late October activities in the music room

I am a bit late on sharing what we have been doing in music. Here are a few videos of various classes singing, dancing, playing drums, etc.

As a reminder, I am at Howe for conferences. Please email me if you are interested in reserving a time to meet.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Since I am in two buildings this year I will be available to your for conferences either in person at Howe School or through zoom. If you would like to reserve a date and time for conferences please send me an email to reedc@dearbornschools.org and I will reserve your spot for you.

Howe Music Club

Howe Music Clubs will start this week, Wednesday, October 19, 4:00-4:50 pm. We will meet every Wednesday. I would like to add a Music Club Course in Schoology and add our students to that group. This will be a way for us to communicate privately, share videos and photos, and for me to post instructional links and other education pieces of information that is not accessible on mainstream media.

If you child signed up for Music Club please check their Schoology Account with them and look at the new ‘course’ files. If your child has not signed up and would like to, just go to this weblink , print and sign the application form, and return it to Mrs. Reed on Monday.
