I had the great pleasure of working with some young flutists this afternoon. We worked on some embouchure flexibility exercises similar to lip slurs on a brass instrument, beautiful long tones, checked correct fingerings for some of the higher register notes and checked hand and body posture. They were all super nice people with a desire to learn. I look forward to meeting up with again in the future to see how much progress has been made.
Check out the videos for your instrument in this website. Here are some really fun activities to use to improve your playing.
As you might already know Mrs. Reed is teaching in three different buildings this year. She and the STEM Orchestra performed a concert in December. Here is a link for you to go to and watch the concert. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a Middle School Orchestra program this year, too?! Pl Ashe enjoy watching the STEM Orchestra and Band perform. https://youtu.be/ml3MsiRG9T4
The Basic Band Info website has some great training videos for band students. Please spend some time watching hem and playing along. You will learn so much more if you do that from home. ?

Students throughout the District are taking Pre-Tests for rhythmic composition this month. Our Salina and Long students will be participating in the Pre-Test this week and next week. Our goal is to be able to compose a 4 measure rhythmic composition and perform it correctly. Since this is a pre-test we do allow for errors to be made. Later this year all students will be tested again and they should have a much higher success rate with the composition and performance.
You are welcome to stop in and observe us working on the project. Each performance will be video taped for my class records. You may ask to see what your son’s or daughter’s video.
Naeema Omar, at 5th grader at Salina Intermediate School, represented our community very well this past Thursday. She, along with a select group of students throughout the District performed a section of Ode to Joy along with the Dearborn Symphony at the Annual Dearborn Youth Concert. What a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience a live performance of a professional orchestra. What a fantastic opportunity for these talented youth to experience performing on stage with this fine orchestra. This could be the beginning of an exciting musical career. 🙂
Trumpets, I will see you on Friday, Nov. 6, at 1:30. Your assignment is to practice pages 4-6. If you have questions please leave a comment below or use my Contact Mrs. Reed link.
