‘Remind’ communications

My apologies to the parents at Howard Elementary School. When setting the students up with Remind communications app I neglected to switch to the Howard Violin Group so all of my violin students signed their parents up in the Howard Band Group.

To easily fix the situation please remove yourself from the Howard Band group and click this link to request to be added to the Howard Violin Remind Group.

Listen, Think, Write

We are so excited to be using our new Music Dry Erase books in the music classroom.  Today we were listening, singing, and thinking about what word we were singing on each beat of the song.  We use the Heart icon to represent one beat in the song.  Can you cound the white squares under each heart and tell us how many beats our song has in total?

5th Grade Instrumental Music

All of the students who have expressed an interested in Instrumental Music (Band or violin class) have been tested on mouthpieces and sized up for a violin.  Paperwork for use of a school instrument should be turned in by this week.  If you are still interested in your child participating in Instrumental Music please plan to turn your forms in by Friday.  You are welcome to email me if you need a new copy of the forms.

5th Grade Instrumental Music

My future musicians have all seen the Intro to Instruments presentation.  We are now waiting for the updated and translated Instrument Application forms to be sent out to the Dearborn Music Staff.  Once I have the forms we will send them home with all 5th grade students interested in playing in band or violin class this year.  We will begin Instrument Fittings next week.

If you would like to review the instruments and see what they look like and what they sound like you can watch this video with your child:

Welcome back to a New School Year!

All are welcome here!  We are beginning a new school year and I have a slight change in my building assignments.  I am happy to say that I am remaining at Maples Elementary School teaching 5th grade Band and Violin as well as Lower Elementary General Music.  I will also continue to teach 5th Grade Band and Violin at Becker Elemenatry.  My new assignment will be 5th Grade Band and Violin at Howard Elementary School.  I am looking forward to meeting all of my new instrumental music students and incoming Kindergarten and young 5’s this year.

To all of my favorite McCollough students, I wish you a year of great success!  I will miss teaching you this year but am confident you are going to have a fantastic year!  Please keep in touch with me.

Fordson Track Concert was a Success!

Thank you to everyone who was able to come out and join us for our 2nd Annual Fordson Track Instrumental Music Concert.  The concert was a success with Standing Room Only!  We also had such a large number of students participating that we ran out of chairs and stands.  This is a ‘goood problem’ since it is a sign that our music programs are growing.  This is our goal – to build the music programs from the ground up.  Our 5th graders are the building block to the Middle School and High School programs.  It would be my desire to see each and every one of my students continuing in music through the 12th grade.

Here are a few photos from the concert:

May 9 Music Concert

We are really looking forward to our big concert on May 9, 5:00-5:45 pm at McCollough-Unis School in the gym.  It will be a pleasure to meet all the parents of our aspiring young musicians, too.

If you have not turned in your permission form you can still do that on Monday. If you plan to order a Pizza Snack that must be turned in by Monday. I can’t accept pizza orders after Monday evening.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered as Chaperone group leaders.  You are a big part of the success of this event. 🤗🎶
