What’s up guys?
So, this week, we have been working on reading the novella, “Animal Farm.” We reviewed rhetorical devices (ethos, pathos, logos) and talked about how they apply to the book. Today, we looked at vocabulary words for Chapter Three, paraphrased words in groups and shared out.
REMEMBER: Paraphrasing means to put something in your own words! 🙂
The vocabulary list is attached to this post — just in case you lost it.
HOMEWORK:
Chapter One Words to Paraphrase:
#1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 10
Chapter Two Words to Paraphrase:
#3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 15
You can do these on loose leaf paper and attach them to the list.
Any questions, feel free to email me any time BEFORE 7 PM for assistance.
REMINDER: Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the CAFETERIA! Hope to see you there! 🙂
Enjoy the weekend!

Good Evening,
Over the course of the past few days, I have been checking papers and I am noticing a trend…again. The trend is not a fashionable one, but rather, one in poor choice — academic dishonesty.
According to the Dearborn Public Schools Guidelines for Grading, the policy is as follows:
“Cheating, however, is a disciplinary issue which may result in a zero, whether the work involved is a formative or a summative assessment.”
Here is the link, if you would like to read it yourself: https://dearbornschools.org/academics/guidelines-for-grading
If you copied on an assignment, I gave you a zero and made a note that said, “COPYING – ACADEMIC DISHONESTY.”
This is the second time I have had to make a blog post about this and I will also remind you all of this in class tomorrow. I am really disappointed and very upset about this. Copying does not equal learning.
Please do not email me about this issue.
Thank you,
Miss Palonis
Hey everyone!
This is a reminder that you can redo the CommonLit assignment for, “Conformity.” Please remember to try your hardest, read the article, answer the guided reading questions and pay attention to what the assessment questions are asking you. When it comes to the writing response think about what the question is asking you, if it is asking you to find information from the text, read the text and figure out what is needed to answer the question. TAKE YOUR TIME. You have until 11:59 FRIDAY NIGHT to complete this. Do not email me at 10 pm Friday night and ask me to reset your password, you should know it by now.
Reminder:
SSR Project is due tomorrow. The rubric is attached.
Another reminder:
DO NOT EMAIL ME ABOUT GRADES.

Hi Guys!
Today, in class, we worked on using the SOAPSToneS strategy while reading the article, “The Power of Advertising.” If you did not finish the article, you are to do it for homework. Here is a picture of the SOAPSToneS guide with the things I want you to look for underlined. If you have questions, please email me.
DO NOT FORGET YOU HAVE A COMMONLIT ASSIGNMENT TO DO. IT IS DUE BY SUNDAY @ 11:59 PM!!!!!
Tomorrow is a LATE START!
See you then!

Good Morning, Everyone!
Today marks the beginning of Semester Two/Card Marking 4.
I will be handing out new SSR Logs and Participation Sheets this week.
This week, I will be reviewing Rules and Norms for my class and the 9th grade academy. As a reminder, I will warn you once, the second time I have to say something to you, it will result in an infraction and the third time class is disrupted, I will send you to the office. We are really pressed for time this semester because there are a lot of testing dates, half days and days off, so it is important we really buckle down and get to work!
If you do not have a planner, you need to get one from Ms. Moussa in the 9th Grade Office. Planners are mandatory and if you do not have one, it is an automatic infraction. You need to come to class prepared and ready to learn.
I will not be writing any bathroom passes. If you have a medical condition, it needs to be documented with the office.
We will begin working toward reading, “Animal Farm” this week. I’m so excited to teach this and I’m so excited for you to learn!!
Let’s have an awesome semester!
