Dear Families,
I hope that you and your child and/or children are excited to learn about our new musical symbol today, which is called the accent.
The purpose of the accent

is to tell the player or performer to highlight or make louder a particular note or notes when singing and/or playing music. Do you see the little accent sign above this high E note? Remember, the letter names of the spaces spell the word FACE and you start with the bottom space first.

Please notice in the song La Bamba that there are accents for the music for the musicians playing the maraca part.
This is a picture of a pair of maracas.

Enjoy!
Warmly,
Ms. Wilder
Assignment
Clap the maraca part and make sure you accent or make louder the note that is accented in the rhythm. How did you do? I feel certain that you did great! Good job! Miss you!
