  • Reading– Students were given the iReady books. Soon we will get the assessment and resource up and running. Students are continuing to practice their reading stamina in class. Always remember to read at home, too!
  • Writing– Students have been working on their personal narratives. I have previewed some and they look great! I have emphasized the importance of indenting, capitalization, punctuation and providing a title to each piece of writing they complete. Students have been building their work on writing stamina, too!
  • Science– Students have been enjoying science investigations using wires, light bulbs, and batteries. Students had an opportunity to work in groups to create a light bulb circuit and a working electromagnet.
  • Social Studies– We have been covering “Questions Geographers Ask” in regards to location and place. Students have explored the location of the U.S. based on continent, hemisphere and geographic location using the equator and Prime Meridian. Now, students will think about how to describe human and physical characteristics of the United States.

We are continuing to build a productive and focused classroom environment.  I appreciate the support from you all! Let’s keep working to make it a successful year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Prebenda

We love to READ!

Today, students picked out 2-3 good fit books to take home in their book bags today.

Please encourage your students to read those books at home to build their READING STAMINA!

Reading is awesome, reading is fun, reading is for everyone

Students are responsible for each book they borrow from the classroom library. It needs to be returned to school on their designated library day so that they can choose new books to read.

Also,

HOMEWORK REMINDER:

Math homework sent home today and is due tomorrow. Students are to complete pages 21-22, all problems. Math homework is completed in the book called “Succeed”. There are homework helper pages to assist parents and students.

Homework Updates

Hello parents!

This is a friendly reminder to hold students accountable for completing homework. Students write their homework on their weekly homework planner page that remains in their dark blue take home folder for the duration of the week. This past week there were 2 homework assignments: Social Studies worksheet about the relative location of the United States AND Math Book C (Succeed) pages 5-7, problem numbers (#s) 1a, 1b, 1c and 2, 5 & 6. If students have not completed it yet, it will be due no later than Monday.

Homework pace will pick up quickly as we enter the end of the first month of school.

Have a wonderful weekend!

First Week of School Reminders

Hello to all of my fourth grade families!

Just wanted to share a few reminders as we work through the first week of school:

  • Please be patient during these first few weeks of schools as my classroom, school and I work hard to create a solid routine and schedule. Know that we are all working hard to create a solid foundation for this school year!
  • Parents- please fill out, sign and return the lunch forms by Wednesday, August 29. These forms when home with the oldest child at Miller (if you have more than one child at the school).
  • School supplies- I ask that all school supplies be brought to school by Thursday, the end of our first week of school. Do not hesitate to reach out should there be any concerns.
  • During the warmer schools day, I would recommend sending your child to school with a water bottle so that they can stay hydrated throughout the day. I, myself, bring one each day as it is important to drink plenty of water each day regardless of the weather.
  • Also, I wanted to address an error in the Introduction letter that I sent home (yellow paper). I accidentally typed ‘third graders’ instead of ‘fourth graders’, but please know that my intention was to welcome and introduce myself to our fourth grade class. My apologies for this error! (My prior experience was in third grade, so it must have sneaked into my mind!)

Lastly, please let me know if there is any information regarding your student that would help him/her and I have a more successful year! I look forward to getting to know you and your student.

Feel free to contact me via email at: prebenm@dearbornschools.org

I am SO excited about teaching 4th grade and cannot wait to get to know you all. I am hopeful that we will have a successful, respectful and amazing year full of learning and growth (for me too!).

To my students- please come prepared to share about your summer and meet your new classmates!

To my families, please know that you can contact me or talk with me about any comments or concerns you may have throughout the year. I plan to keep an open line of communication in order to support the success of your student(s).
