Field trip to Greenfield Village on Thursday, May 16, 2016 information

If you are a chaperone, please meet at the school at 9:00. Parent will drive their own vehicles. Kinders should be boarding on the bus at 9:15.

Chaperones-Please see me to get a chaperone list,  my contact info, and to verify your contact information.

All parents:

Please make sure your child has a packed lunch and good walking shoes is a must!!!!

According to the weather report, it will rain and be 70. No worries, there are many shelter spots, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.

All students need to ride the bus to and from the field trip.

Week of May 13th

Reading

We will review text types: storybooks, fiction/nonfiction, poetry. We will practice retelling the story in sequence. We will ask and answer questions. We will discuss the cause and effect. We will visualize a story. We will make self to text connections to read alouds

Spelling words: (-ub) sub, tub, cub, rub, hub, club, stub, scrub, red, blue

Language Arts

We are learning three letter s-blends (spr-, spl-). Sight words:red, blue We will review nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will review antonyms, syllables, magic/bossy e and endings in a word (suffixes- ing, -ed,-er, -s, -y). We will practice fixing sentences (capitalization, punctuation).

Writing

We will be writing an informational piece about insects. We will write a descriptive piece and include their habitats.  

Math

We will answer how many in addition and subtraction problems within a group of 20. We will find a hidden teen numbers within numbers 0-100. We will be practicing place value: tens, ones.

Science.

We will learn about the living and nonliving things.

Social Studies

We will discuss ways for saving the earth and how to reuse materials in classroom. We will also review endangered animals and why they are endangered (loss of habitat or hunted by poachers)

  • 5- 24 & 5-27: No school- Memorial Day
  • 6-3, 6-4 & 6-5: No school- Vacation (Eid Holiday)

  • 6-12: Year End Kindergarten Picnic @York Park from 11:00-12:00 (all families invited)
  • 6-14: Last day of school (1/2 day)

We will be writing an informational piece about frogs.  We will write a descriptive piece and include its lifecycle.  

Math

We will answer how many within a group of 20. We will build a rekenrek. We will practice counting in an array, linear and circular configuration.  

Science.

We will learn about the lifecycle of a frog. It include: egg, tadpole, tadpole with legs, froglet, adult frog.

Social Studies

We will discuss ways for saving the earth and how to reuse materials in classroom.

Personal narrative letter- check your child’s backpack today

Dear Kinder families,

Attached is a blueprint to help your child write a personal narrative.  A personal narrative is a real story that happened to your child. Please fill in the cover sheet and then write or type the story out. Top five stories will be submitted to a Brainstormer’s writing assembly where a few pieces will be picked to be performed to our school. This will be due on Friday, April 26th.

Reading

Writing

We will be write an information with riddles about animals using descriptive words. ie. what animal has black and white? It looks like a horse? It can be found in a zoo. It is a zebra.

Math

We will be practicing numbers 0-20 by counting groups of ten and some ones. We will practice counting and writing numbers in the say ten way format. We will also practice writing numbers 1-100. We will practice drawing teen numbers from abstract to pictorial.

Science.

We will monitor and record what is happening to our plants.

Social Studies

We will be discussing Earth Day. We will learn about the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. We will discuss ways for saving the earth from different types of pollution.

Reading

We will be identifying text types: storybooks, fiction/nonfiction, poetry. We will continue to make connections and provide evidence from the read aloud. We will sort and categorize types of plants into the way they grow: in the ground, or above the ground.

Language Arts

We are learning the s-blends (sk-, sm-). Sight words: did, do. We will also discuss nouns and verbs. We will review antonyms, syllables, magic/bossy e and endings in a word (suffixes- ing, -ed,-er, -s, -y)

We will be practicing numbers 0-20 by counting groups of ten and some ones. We will practice counting and writing numbers in the say ten way format. We will identify a group of ten and some ones. We will also practice writing numbers 1-100. We will practice skip counting by 10’s from any number with a number chart. ie 22>32>42 etc.

Science

We planted last week! We will review needs of a plant. This includes: space, air, water, soil, sun and a seed. We will also  discuss the parts of a plant and its purpose which include: roots, stem, leaves, seeds, flower petals.

*Spelling test will be on Thursday, April 18th

*Dress appropriately for the weather. Michigan weather is constantly changing 🙂

*No school on Friday, April 19th

*Homework will be due on Monday, April 22nd
