Tuesday, Oct 8th!

Hello! Happy Tuesday!

10/8 Quick Write:

Today we are diving into the concept of being Hunters and Gatherers. We will do a scavenger hunt activity which will hopefully give you a better understanding of how Paleolithic communities had to work together in order to survive. See the scavenger hunt instructions/simulation below:

Enjoy your day… be productive and focused!

Monday, Oct 7th…

Welcome back! Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

10/7 Quick Write:

The first thing we’re going to do today is finish up the Ch. 3 & 4 Gallery Walk. Some of you still had a couple boxes to complete on Friday, so we will have no more than 5 minutes to finish this.

Then we will move on to a brief discussion of the Paleolithic Age, or the Old Stone Age– the time period where most hominids (except Lucy) lived.

You will write a diary entry as if you were a Paleolithic person, describing your day and the various challenges you face. See instructions below:

This diary entry will be due at the end of class.

Have a great Monday!

Tuesday, Oct 1st:

Happy first day of October!

10/1 Quick Write:

As you already know, today there will be a substitute. I expect for you to treat the substitute even better than you usually treat me: with respect and understanding.

Any misbehavior will result in:

  • Call home
  • Signature on the PBIS form
  • Lunch detention (you will spend lunch with me)

Do not embarrass yourself, and DO NOT embarrass me. The substitute will be instructed to call/text me if there are ANY issues. Remember… I want the sub to see what I get to see everyday– how cool, smart and on-task you all are. Make me proud!

Your assignment is attached below. You will be reading Chapter 2 in the textbook, and filling in info on each of the 5 hominid groups. Then you will write a brief CER on one hominid and how it compares to modern humans.

Have a wonderful day, make me proud, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Friday, Sept 27th… final day of the Investigation!

Happy Friday… it’s time to write our critique!

9/27 Quick Write:

Remember the task of this Investigation…

Yesterday, we practiced the organization of a persuasive CER/Critique. Now you’re using your notes and annotations to organize your own argument on which sources are unreliable for learning about the dodecahedron. Make sure to use the “Useful Language” sheet in your Packet to help make your argument as strong as possible.

Below are the slides:

You will be turning in your whole packet at the end of today!

Thursday, Sept 26th…

Happy almost Friday!

9/27 Quick Write:

We are finishing Source 3 today! After we wrap up all 3 sources, and review our notes on which sources seem unreliable, and (most importantly) why, we are moving on to our Critique. Remember our task:

We won’t be able to write our Critique today, but we will review what a persuasive CER contains and looks like. We will practice the organization of a CER with an Argument Sort activity, found in your Investigation Packet.

Tomorrow we will take this review, along with all of the information we have compiled, or collected, and write a Critique on the reliability of different Dodecahedron sources.

Have an amazing day!

Wednesday, Sept 25th!

Happy halfway through the week!

9/25 Quick Write:

Today we will briefly review our thoughts on Source 2, make sure all of our notes in the Source Packet have been filled in so far, and progress on to our final source! You all will be taking the lead again on Source 3, using the Bookmark as a guide.

Slides and directions for Source 3 can be found below.

We should have a generally strong understanding of which sources we think are reliable for learning about the dodecahedron… and most importantly… why!
