Ms. K

I’ve been a Dearborn kid my whole life. (Some might say I’m still a kid.) I went to Divine Child High School so I’m not sure how I ended up here in enemy territory at DHS but I’m having a fabulous time and I’m very proud to be a Pioneer now!

My children have attended Lindbergh Elementary School, Bryant Middle School, and Dearborn High School. (Can you imagine your mom teaching in your school? They handle it pretty well.) My daughter graduated in 2016 and currently attends Michigan Technological University in Houghton. I have a son in the Class of 2019 and another daughter in the Class of 2021.

My family would probably tell you that teaching is my only hobby as well but I do have a few others…maybe one or two. I love to read and also swim in our pool in the summer. Well, it’s more like floating really.

 20 Questions

One of the first assignments we complete in our class is this set of 20 questions. I like what I learn about my students from their answers.

These are my answers.

1

What is the last thing you watched on tv or the last video you watched on the internet?

A Dr. Pimple Popper video! Love Dr. Pimple Popper. You should totally subscribe. They are super disgusting. My daughter and I used to watch them together but she’s gone to college now. 😥

2

What was the last text message you sent?

“I want photos of everyone who sits in that chair.”

3

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

I need a house on a Great Lake. It can be a smaller house. That’s fine. But it has to be on a Great Lake, preferably Lake Michigan or Huron. But I’m also going to need a nice apartment in a big city. Yep, I need both.

4

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Er, I got in a bit of trouble when I was in high school…detention, poor grades, uniform violations, “insubordination” etc. But to be fair, I went to Divine Child and getting in trouble there was not like reeeeeally getting in trouble.

5

What kind of music is your least favorite?

It’s a tie between heavy metal (what good is music you can’t sing along with?) and country after 1985 because it’s horrible, just dreadful. My favorite is musical soundtracks! Because you can sing along! #Hamilton

6

What was the last gift you received?

Hm, I can’t recall what I received last but I did recently use a gift. I used a gift card at Om Spa for a pedicure. My family is under orders to only get me Om Spa gift cards for my birthday and Mother’s Day. I love that place. Feels fancy.

7

What is the first thing you think when you wake up in the morning?

If it’s a weekday, I think how could I hit the snooze on the alarm clock without getting up (I have to keep it across the room in the closet because I’m able to turn it off in my sleep) and if it’s the weekend, I think about breakfast.

8

If you could eat lunch with three famous people, who would you choose?

Famous chef, Julia Child, President Theodore Roosevelt, and author, Jane Austen. I’m not sure Jane and Teddy would get along but I know Julia would get along with both of them famously so it would work out.

9

Have you ever won anything?

I won a bed once in a furniture store drawing. Seriously. The kind you sleep in. Still sleep in it.

10

What is currently under your bed?

I’m not looking and you can’t make me. I don’t even like letting my foot hang off the edge of the bed at night.

11

How would your friends describe you?

Hm, why is this one so hard to answer? I do have friends! Funny, I guess? Prone to debating with people? They tease me about my fight Twitter. I can’t help it. I like to fight with people on Twitter. There’s nothing wrong with that!

12

How would your family describe you?

Ha, you get mad now because your parents treat you like a kid? I’ve got some bad news for you. That is never ever going to end. You will be 50 years old and your parents will still be saying, “Well, I just don’t understand what’s wrong with you. Why would you do that?”

13

Where would you like to go on vacation?

Almost anywhere or everywhere. I am always up for a vacation. Some of the top choices are Egypt, China, anywhere in Europe, and a road trip across the U.S.

14

When you go to 7-11, what do you buy?

Puffy Cheetos, Junior Mints, and a frozen Coke…just a nice normal size, not those gigantic gulpy things. And there is no other Slurpee flavor worth getting but Coke.

15

What is something you are really good at?

I’m not too bad at baking and cooking. I’m no Top Chef contestant but I can follow a recipe. Maybe a few things on the computer.

16

If you could change your name to anything, what would you name yourself?

I used to hate my name (Mary Kay! Seriously??) because of the makeup company but I’ve come to realize that people are more likely to remember my name so I don’t think I would change it now.

17

What do you collect?

floatyWell, you might have noticed the Yoda thing. I also collect floaty pens. Next time you go on vacation and you’re in a gift shop, look on the counter by the register for these:

18

What do you do when you’re angry?

I don’t think I get angry very often. I do occasionally snap in class when people don’t treat each other kindly or treat the room kindly. (You know how I feel about my room.)

19

You’ve got $100 to spend at Target. What do you buy?

First, a triple venti caramel macchiato at Starbucks. Hot with whip in winter, iced in summer. Then some yoga pants (They’re not just for yoga anymore) and some sort of organizational product…bins, racks, baskets…because buying it will make you more organized, you know.

20

What would your weapon of choice be in a zombie invasion?

Nothing. I’m a goner. I will be among the first to die in a zombie invasion. I will likely cower in a corner until some zombie gets me and then my family will have to agonize about whether or not to shoot my zombie self.
