I’m going to start recording videos of our current novel, The Wish Tree. You will find the links in the page listed above called “The Wish Tree”. I’ll have them as chapters. I couldn’t remember how to pronounce Samar as a girl’s name, so I asked students to tell me if it’s Samar #1 (SAM-er) or #2 (Suh-MAR). Please let me know in the comments below!
Week #2
Greetings! I hope that everyone is doing well and has been able to access the new set of assignments under the “Remote Learning Tab”. If you are having trouble, please use the graphic below to help you!

I will be recording a video this morning of “Wishtree” and posting it on the blog. If you haven’t taken the survey yet for the app you prefer for online community circle with your student and the class, please do so by clicking here Survey.

Fun and Fit Activities for Home
I found a great resource for fun activities to try at home to help beat boredom. It’s totally reasonable and understandable that our children are getting emotionally and physically tired from the quarantine. Keep in mind, they’re used to spending the majority of their day interacting with peers and following a structured schedule. Here are some ways to help your children get active and creative. Haigh Chromebook survey, click in the blue
Survey deadline will be Sunday, March 22nd)
Completing this survey will allow you to pick up a Chromebook for remote learning. The pick up date will be announced soon.
Accessing Assignments
I decided to make it easier to access the assignments from the main menu that is located on the top bar of my blog. Click on the page link “Remote Learning Assignments” and you will find a page that provides a description of every assignment listed by week.
There will probably be a lot of information posted on this blog in the weeks to come and assignments can be easily “buried”. I want to make it easy for your child to access the remote learning.

Technology Survey
Please see the attached survey in regards to technology access at home. As a building we want to see who may need to borrow a chromebook over the next few weeks to help with their students’ remote learning. These results are confidential to the school and will be shared with the necessary classroom and resource teachers and administrators only. Please complete this survey as early as possible. Thank you.

Read from a novel daily for 30 minutes. Each day, write a one paragraph “Somebody Wanted But So Then” summary and identify 2 words that you used context clues to define. Copy the sentences that include the interesting word and the context clues you used. Circle the interesting word and underline the context clues. Staple all of your work together and turn it in when we return. Each day’s entry will be worth 5 points. If you’re having a hard time finding books to read, check out the Storyline link from the State of Michigan.

School Away From School
As we enter into an extended period of time away from school, I want to take a moment to familiarize my third grade families with what will be a new normal when it comes to academics. First, I want to encourage everyone to stay informed by checking in with my blog, the Haigh School Blog, Mr. Short’s Blog, Dearborn Public School’s Website, and to find a news source that reports current information that you trust. This will provide you with an updated view of what is happening across the district and allow you to proceed through these next few weeks with confidence.
Many parents have expressed concern about maintaining a routine that supports learning while school is closed. Our third grade team worked together to develop a consistent plan for each of our classrooms. I will be posting weekly goals for each subject area. You are encouraged to have your student complete work that will be posted here on my blog. Keep in mind that even though your third grader is not in school, learning opportunities are all around us. These posts will be designed to help your child maintain and grow academically over these next few weeks. Check in every Monday morning for the goals. In the meantime, I found this terrific schedule that I thought would help families maintain a sense of routine with young learners.
