New Gradebook Policy for Remote Learning

Posted by Ms. Issa on April 16, 2020 in Class News with Comments closed |

I hope you are all adjusting to our new way of life. As many have been confused about how much online assignments will impact student grades, our district has finally established a Grading Policy for Remote Learning.

I will be reaching out to you through Remind, Google Classroom & my blog to provide you with more information on weekly student expectations & posting grades. Please read the new high school grading policy carefully.

High School Grading Criteria COVID-19 School Shutdown

  • Students received a grade for marking period 4, which ended March 6th.
  • There will be NO 5th marking period grade given.
  • There will be NO 6th marking period progress reports assigned.

Beginning Monday April 20th- 6th marking period:

  • Students receive feedback on weekly assignments in the form of narrative comments.
  • Staff will input grades at least weekly in the gradebook as work is completed.  This will be available in parent/student connect for parents and students to view.
  • For each class, if a student participates in the learning, he/she will receive credit.  The following will apply:
  • Students who do the following will earn the grade of A recorded:
    • Engage in at least 75% of the remote lessons and hangouts.
    • Submit and earn a passing grade on at least 75% of the assignments.
  • Students who do the following will earn the grade of G which awards credit:
    • Engage in 60-74% of the remote lessons and hangouts.
    • Submit and earn a passing grade on at least 60-74% of the assignments.
  • Students who do the following will earn the grade of N which is no credit given:
    • Engage in less than 60%  of the remote lessons and hangouts.
    • Submit and earn a passing grade on less than 60% of the assignments.
  • If a student chooses not to participate and cannot be reached despite numerous attempts, the student receives N for no credit.  The teacher must submit the credit/no credit form. The principal must approve.
  • If a student is unable to participate due to family hardship, the student will be excused from work and will receive credit.  This evidence will be documented in the building log. Principals must approve credit.
  • Additional comments that may be used:
    • Rarely or did not submit work
    • Rarely attended remote lessons or check-in sessions
    • Family hardship during the time of instruction
  • Any student who receives no credit will have to attend summer school for credit recovery.  (Students must meet the Michigan Merit Curriculum requirements and earn 23 credits to graduate.)
  • There will be a district appeal process for a student contesting their 6th marking period grade.
