A – You begged and begged your parents for a new phone.  They refused to buy you one, but they said if you earn the money, you are allowed to buy your own phone.  You worked.  You worked hard. You walked the neighbor’s dogs; you cut some old lady’s grass; you did some babysitting; you got a part time job at the bakery.  You finally had enough to buy your own phone and you LOVED that phone like it was your own child.  You DISCOVERED that hard work pays off in the end and you will remember that DISCOVERY your whole life.

B – You were walking home from school and you DISCOVERED a shiny new quarter.  You went to the gas station and bought candy.  It tasted good and the next day you forgot all about it.

WHICH ONE MAKES A BETTER PERSONAL NARRATIVE ABOUT DISCOVERY?!?!?!?!?

  2. Write about a famous person or celebrity you would like to meet.
  3. CONNECT (blue square from page 35 in the ELA book)
  4. Describe your life 10 years from now.

HW:

  1. Bring a book!
  2. Composition Book #7 – “What I Did on My Break”
  3. POSTER!!!!!!!!

Just because I’m TOO NICE … here are the events that should be on your poster.  They are NOT in the correct order.

  • Teresa asks Victor to help her learn French. Teresa now starts to flirt back with Victor.  She smiles and plays with her hair.
  • At lunch, Victor pretends to read his math book, but really he’s secretly looking around hoping to see Teresa.
  • It’s the first day of seventh grade at a school in Fresno, California. Victor chooses French class because he knows his crush, Teresa, will also be in that class.
  • The French teacher, Mister Bueller, knows that Victor is faking.  Mister Bueller does not snitch because he remembers doing the same thing when he was younger.
  • Victor meets up with his best friend, Michael.  They raza-shake by the water fountain.
  • Victor lingers after homeroom, hoping to bump into Teresa.  He says something stupid to her, and he blushes.
  • Victor and Teresa are finally together in French class.  Victor pretends to speak French but really he’s faking and making silly noises that sound French.  He is totally embarrassed.
  • Victor goes to the library to get French books.  He was going to like seventh grade.

PROJECT (50 points)

Create a large poster to show the plot of “Seventh Grade”.

HINT: Read today’s bell work to help you get started.  (red circle #6 on page 43)

You should probably make a list of important events in the “Seventh Grade” story before you start the poster.

Just in case you never noticed, I posted the whole “Seventh Grade” section of the ELA book on this blog a few days ago.

DON’T FREAK OUT!  DON’T SPEND 1o HOURS ON THIS PROJECT!

If you neatly draw the mountain shape and you fill in the important events in the correct places on the mountain, you will earn AT LEAST a B.

If you want to earn an A or higher, use a shape that is similar to a mountain and neatly color your poster.  Try to use a shape that somehow connects to the “Seventh Grade” story. EXAMPLES: water fountain, hand shake, Eiffel Tower, etc.

Girls walked by and looked at him.
