Today we went to the computer lab for the NWEA Reading Level Test (WINTER score).

BW: Carefully read page 690 in the “WRITE SOURCE” book.  Neatly copy ONLY the top section on loose leaf (the orange part).

CW: Read “STRAY” by Cynthia Ryloon.  On the back of page 19, draw the plot mountain and fill in each part.  You should have at least 2 events for rising action.

HW:

  1. Bring your library book (or other reading material) to the computer lab tomorrow.  YES I WILL BE CHECKING THIS FOR POINTS!
  2. “LOCKDOWN”.  Carefully read and annotate and study.  Be ready for a quiz. 🙂

HW:

Show your report card #3 portfolio to one of your parents (or both).

Ask him or her (or them) to sign the final report.

BRING THE WHOLE PORTFOLIO BACK TO CLASS TOMORROW!

Easy 10 points.  🙂

CW:

Carefully read through the reading selection.  The story does not have a title, but it is about a young girl who hears a strange noise in the night.

Use the QAR process to answer the questions. YES … you MUST use all 7 steps of QAR (with color) to earn the highest score.

BW: Skim through the story, “The Jigsaw Puzzle”. On loose leaf, neatly write all NINE vocabulary words and their definitions.  Skip a line after each one.

CW: On the back of your BW, choose FIVE of the vocab words and write a good sentence for each word.

MINI-QUIZ

“The Jigsaw Puzzle”

E.L.A. 7                                                                        WRITING ASSIGNMENT

 $500!

Imagine that one day, you are walking home from Lowrey and you find $500 on the sidewalk.

Please write a creative, interesting description of what you would do with the money.

 Remember to describe:

  • WHEN did you find the money? (What month, day, time, etc.?)
  • WHERE did you find the money? (Street name, by a home or a business.)
  • WHO was with you when you found the money? (Will you share?)
  • WHAT are some other ideas for what you could do with the money?
  • HOW will you spend the money? (It could be for you or for charity.)
  • and anything else fun and creative that you can think of!

Remember: SHOW not TELL and details, details, details.

 1. First, write a rough draft on loose leaf. Please skip lines for the rough draft.  Your rough draft should be AT LEAST one page (skipping lines) but more than one page is probably better.

 2. Read through your draft. Use colored pencils to REVISE your rough draft.  You should make at least three improvements to your rough draft.  (HINT: word choice, thesaurus)

3. On a new sheet of loose leaf, write a final copy. You should take your time and use your best handwriting for your final copy.  DO NOT SKIP LINES!  Please try to fit your final copy on the FRONT only of the loose leaf.

 4. Neatly staple your final copy on top of your rough draft.

HINT:  Your rough draft and final copy are due IN CLASS!  Please get right to work and do not waste time in class.  This assignment is worth AT LEAST 10 points, probably more.

 HOMEWORK:

For a little bit of extra credit, you draw a neat picture of how you spent the money.  And yes … you SHOULD color the picture!

CW: Read “The Jigsaw Puzzle”.  The story starts on page 197 in the blue literature books.

On loose leaf, create questions and possible answers.  You should create one RT question, one T&S question and one A&M question.  Do NOT answer the questions.

Also, choose 3 of the vocab words from the story and make flash cards.

TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF SEMESTER #2.

SEVENTH GRADE IS HALF OVER.

BW:

Quietly read and study page 470 in the 7th grade Write Source book.  On loose leaf answer the first “GRAMMAR Try IT”.

We should have had the big green hamburger quiz today, but … we didn’t.

There is a 97% chance that the big hamburger quiz will be MONDAY!

Please study during the weekend.

One of the BEST ways to study is to draw the hamburger shape on loose leaf then try to fill in words. Do NOT look at the green paper.

Then check the green paper to see what you still need to learn.  Study some more then try it again.  Keep doing this until you have it down.  🙂

Study the green hamburger graphic organizer.
