I bought almost 1,000 pencils at the beginning of the year and they are now all GONE!

Please start bringing your own pencils to class every day.

You should have at least 2 good, working pencils with erasers and lead every day.

HW:

  1. Bring pencils to class on Monday.
  2. Catch up on any missing assignments.

Today we started filling out the graphic organizer for our ARGUMENTATIVE essay.

HW (for 1st hour, 3rd hour, and 4th hour):

VENN diagram.  You have two choices.

  1. [loose leaf] Draw a normal VENN diagram (two circles) and use it to compare and contrast phones and computers.
  2. [computer paper] Draw a triple VENN diagram (three circles) and use to compare and contrast phones, computers, and ipods.

HINT: We started this in class as a BW, but I am allowing you to finish it at home, so I expect quality work.  Take your time.  Make it look nice but also make sure your ideas are strong. Color is NOT as important as your ideas.

We continued working on our ARGUMENTATIVE essay about electronics and technology addiction.

Today, I collected the YES/NO T-chart which must show support for BOTH sides using all THREE sources.

HW:

Carefully read the HOOKS sheet.

COMPOSITION BOOK page #2

TRY writing at least 5 different “hooks” that could open your essay about electronics and technology.

HINT: Use the examples on the HOOKS sheet to help you.  Make sure your “hooks” connect with the 3 sources we have been using in class.

Today I collected the mid-winter break packets (50 points).  I encouraged the students to check over their answers with a partner before turning in their packets.

We also continued working on our ARGUMENTATIVE essay about electronics and technology use and addiction. We began a YES/NO T-chart that shows support from all three sources.

“The Madness Passes”

BW: Neatly copy only the LAST section of the mid-winter packet story on loose leaf. (two paragraphs)

CW: Neatly copy only question 7 Part A and all four possible answers from the packet on loose leaf.

Answer ONLY question 7 Part A on BOTH loose leaves. Use a colored pencil when you are answering.

HINT: We worked on this together in class.  The correct answer with QAR was on the Promethean board.

CW:

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

Use all THREE sources to determine if statements are TRUE or FALSE. If the statement is false, correct it to make it TRUE.

Next to each statement, write the source number that contains the correct information.

Click below to view and print the statement sheet:

argumentative.true.false

BW:

[loose leaf] Neatly write these words and their definitions:

  1. statistics
  2. access
  3. depressed
  4. isolated
  5. addiction
  6. adolescents
  7. ??? (your choice – must be from article)

HINT: All these words and MOST of the definitions are in the article, “Two Days with No Phone”.

CW:

[loose leaf] Neatly write the subtitles from the article, “Two Days with No Phone”.  Skip TWO lines after each subtitle.  The first section does not have a subtitle so just write “introduction”.

Carefully read through each section of the article.  After you read each section, write one interesting fact or thing you learned.  Make sure you write in the correct place on your loose leaf.

HW: NONE.  🙂

HW:

  1. Read “Someone is Watching You”.
  2. COMPOSITION BOOK page #1 – Write your response to the article. Give at least too reasons to support your argument.

HINT: Choose which side you are with and answer using SAR.  Make sure your reasons are FROM THE ARTICLE.

I mighttt have made a mistake somewhere in this blog post.

Today we went to the computer lab for the conclusion of the  NWEA Reading Level Test (WINTER score).

HW:

Choose ONE vocabulary word from the “LOCKDOWN” directions paper and complete a SKETCH sheet for that word.

It’s that time of year again.  The cold and the snow seem to bring out the sneezes and the sniffles.

We need tissue for all those runny noses.

Bring one box of tissue to share with the class to earn an easy 5 extra credit points.

This offer is good until Friday, February 13, 2015 at 3:05 p.m.

Students who actually read this blog and turn in a box of tissue on Monday, February 9, 2015 will receive a 3 point BONUS for a total of 8 extra credit points.
