OPINION ESSAY PARAGRAPH 1 (introduction)

  • Explain the topic.
  • Restate the prompt with your opinion.
  • List your arguments.

Mrs. Younes (the PRINCIPAL of LMS) wrote the following introduction.  Read hers then try writing your own.  Do NOT copy hers.  Try to write something similar using your own words.

There are many different types of service animals that are trained to support people living with injuries. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) recently passed a law limiting the types of service animals allowed in public areas.  This new rule only allows dogs and miniature horses to act as service animals in public places.  Although different service animals are a better fit for certain people with specific disabilities, the ADA’s new rule is completely justified in that it protects people on a much larger scale.  Allowing diverse animals in public places potentially puts people in harm’s way and causes a great amount of chaos.  Lastly, boundaries must exist in order to limit the variety of animals able to enter the public arena to prevent an unhealthy and disruptive environment.

HINT: Remember to indent at the beginning of each new paragraph.  For some reason, the blog site is not allowing indentation.

SPRING BREAK “PACKET”

I used quotation marks because it’s really not one packet.  It’s more like parts of two packets.

  • “HAMLET” Answer questions 1-11 (use QAR).
  • Write a rough draft of your opinion essay about the service animal rule (loose leaf).

Not too bad, right? 🙂

HINT: Keep checking the blog for examples of how to write the different paragraphs of your opinion essay.

Today I collected the animals helping people matching sheet (Monday’s group CW).

HW: Read and annotate (talk to the text) …

  • source #2 “Animals Helping People”
  • source #3 “New Service Animal Rules”

DO NOT HIGHLIGHT WITH AGREE AND DISAGREE COLORS!

HW:

“MONKEY HELPERS”

Read and annotate (talk to the text).

By now, you should have read and annotated all three chapters of “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare.

You should pretty much know all the characters and the settings and the basic plot.

Your HW is to copy question 2 (from page 18) on to loose leaf.  Then switch to a colored pencil and answer using QAR.  You should do all steps of QAR except do NOT underline your proof in the text. HOWEVER … be ready to prove and defend your answer in class.

I collected all three parts of the final project today.

  • picture
  • S.A.R.
  • speech or thought bubble

Some students began practicing in groups for the performance of HAMLET Chapter One.

HW:

READ and ANNOTATE (talk to the text) HAMLET Chapters 2-3 (pages 15-17).

Please bring colored pencils to class tomorrow.

We worked on the final project part 3 today (thought or speech bubble).

I also checked the HW about Setting/Hamlet.

HW:

READ and annotate (talk to the text). “Hamlet” – ONLY CHAPTER ONE (page 14).

EXTRA CREDIT: Turn in an old cell phone that you don’t want any more. The phone must be dead but should still look like it works.  Do not bring in a cracked or obviously broken phone.

Most students took a quiz today. (check yesterday’s blog to see what was on the quiz)

HW:

1. Finish final project parts one and two. Read the directions!

  • PART ONE – Draw teen pic and color.
  • PART TWO – S.A.R.

2. Read and talk to the text – SETTING/HAMLET (pages 12/13)

If you have been approved to color, your HW is to finish coloring your teen.
