BW: On loose leaf, neatly copy a small paragraph or section from your library book. SKIP LINES. You only need about half a page. Then study page three from your composition book. Choose ONE of the reading strategies and try it on the BACK of your loose leaf. For example, if you choose “visualize”, you should draw a quick sketch of what is happening in your library book.

CW: In class today, we worked in our reading groups. Each group was supposed to finish question #5 for “Hot Work” using all 7 steps of QAR.

Today was kind of a catch up day.

Third and Fourth hours had a quiz.

I collected NWEA Lexile level sheets.

Please remember that reading SOMETHING is better than reading NOTHING.

(but not as good as a good fit book)

Its very important that you read the chalkboard every day and write the homework in it’s correct location. 

Today I collected the “Seventh Grade” plot project.

We also did a little more work in our groups.

These are NOT in order.

  • Teresa asked Victor if he could help her learn French.  She plays with her hair while she talks to him.
  • Victor embarrasses himself when he says, “Yeah.  That’s me.” after Teresa says hi.
  • It’s Victor’s first day of seventh grade at a school in Fresno, California.  He picks French class because he wants to be in the same class as his crush, Teresa.
  • At lunch, Victor looks everywhere to find Teresa, but he never sees her.
  • In French class, Victor pretends to speak French to impress Teresa.  The teacher knows Victor is faking, but doesn’t say anything.
  • Victor visits the library after school to check out French books.  He thinks he’s going to like seventh grade.

Plot Project

On a large piece of paper (or a poster), create a plot mountain shape and include important details from in the story in the correct places on the mountain.

GOOD: Neatly draw a mountain shape.

BETTER: Neatly draw something different that has the same shape as a mountain (example – roller coaster).

BEST: Neatly draw a plot shape that MATCHES something in the story (example – water fountain).

  • Label titles for each part of the mountain.
  • Include details from the story, “Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto. HINT: Use bullets.
    • At least 2 for EXPOSITION.
    • At least 2 for RISING ACTION.
    • Only 1 for CLIMAX.
    • 1 or 2 for FALLING ACTION.
    • 1 for RESOLUTION.
  • Spelling counts.
  • Neatness counts.
  • Color counts.
