NWEA LANGUAGE PRACTICE:

  • Compare your work to the online version of the mermaid/surfer story and make sure you have made the correct changes.
  • THE ONLINE VERSION OF THE STORY WAS ON THE IBLOG YESTERDAY.
  • Study WSG7 book page 590. Then answer 1-9 from page 591 on a sheet of loose leaf.
  • IXL – ELA – 7TH GRADE LEVEL – Y5 – score must reach 80. If you’re on probation, you should try to reach 100.

MERMAID/SURFER INTERACTIVE VERSION:

https://chompchomp.com/exercises.htm#Comma_Splices_and_Fused_Sentences

  • Staple your NWEA loose leaf and your NWEA HINTS sheet together, then drop them in your hour’s bin.
  • COMPOSITION BOOK page #5 directions have been posted.

IF YOUR NWEA SCORE WENT UP …

First, finish your BW. Keep it on the table. Then you may have very, very, VERY quiet free time while students are testing. You may use headphones. You must remain in a seat where no one is near you. SILENCE!

IF YOUR NWEA SCORE WENT DOWN …

Continue adding more and more and more sentences to today’s BW or choose some other ELA work to do. You must work very, very, VERY quietly. You must remain in your testing seat.

IF YOUR NWEA SCORE STAYED THE SAME … that means you’re older now but your reading level is the same so that means your score went DOWN.

CHOICES FOR STUDENTS ON PROBATION:

  • CHECK STUDENT CONNECT AND WORK ON YOUR MISSING ASSIGNMENTS!
  • Work on your composition book.
  • Think of some high level ELA work you could do.
  • IXL
  • “She lived on Mars”
  • Read a book.
  • Read a Scholastic SCOPE or ACTION article then write a summary.
  • Make flashcards and study them.
  • Week 15

PROBATION

You WILL be on probation for many, many, many days if your NWEA score STAYS THE SAME OR goes DOWN.

  • Extra HW.
  • Assigned seats.
  • No bathroom breaks.
  • No headphones.
  • No buying things with polar points.
  • Extra ELA help after school.
  • No free time.
  • No reading dodgeball, etc.
  • No participating in challenges.

IF YOUR NWEA SCORE GOES UP, the teacher will give you a lot of FREEDOM and choices and privileges in this class.

There will be VERY NICE PRIZES for the student who gets the HIGHEST NWEA score and for the student who JUMPS the most points on the NWEA.

READING BASKETBALL?

If you have worked the whole hour and you have sick shooting skills or would like to improve your shooting skills (and possibly win some polar points), drop your name into the Ethiopian coffee box.

IF YOU HAVE FINISHED ALL OF TODAY’S DIRECTIONS AND YOUR IXL SCORE REACHES 80 OR HIGHER IN CLASS TODAY, YOU ARE FREE TO CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT TO WORK ON.

HEADPHONES?

If you have your OWN headphones or ear buds, you are welcome to use them in class today.

If you would like to borrow my headphones, drop your name into the Happy Birthday box.

LEAVE YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT?

If you work VERY QUIETLY for 15 minutes, and then you VERY QUIETLY move to a new seat and VERY QUIETLY keep working, I probably won’t say anything.

EXCEPTION: 4th hour did NOT get a good substitute report, therefore, 4th hour students should NOT leave their assigned seats. EXCEPTION TO THE EXCEPTION: 4th hour students who read the secret, and it is true of them, may leave their assigned seats today.

NEW INFORMATION: A little birdie told me that sixth hour was NOT perfect yesterday, so 6th hour’s move seat time is 20 minutes.

EXTRA CREDIT:

If you’re done with EVERYTHING … search up new “Keep Calm” memes and make a neat, colorful poster. You will earn 5 extra credit points AND a FREE HW card.

VOCABULARY:

[on a fresh sheet of loose leaf paper]

First, read “Amigo Brothers” pages 324-326 (ELA LIT BOOK).

Then write 10 NEW sentences in your own words that use the bolded words from the BOTTOM of page 323.

YES … I know you already did this with the substitute, but I want you to do it one more time to prove that you actually really understand the vocabulary words.

4th, 5th and 6th hours did NOT get a good report from the substitute.

We MIGHT do something fun today, but first you need to show some PERFECT behavior to make up for what happened yesterday. Here are your choices:

  • Work on the “fun” holiday word search I made for you. You must highlight the words you find. THIS WILL COUNT FOR EXTRA CREDIT POINTS IF YOU ACTUALLY FINISH IT. You must use a variety of colors if you want full points.
  • Get started on the winter break IXL assignments. You may use headphones.
  • Work on the NWEA CORE LESSON from Thursday.
  • 5th HOUR ONLY: If you have a perfect score for Week 14, you may have quiet free time the whole hour. YOU WILL ONLY GET ONE CHANCE.
