  • 5 spelling bee level 2 flashcards from Wednesday
  • your HW

FOR THE REST OF THE HOUR YOU SHOULD PRACTICE FOR THE SPELLING BEE OR CHOOSE OTHER QUIET WORK TO DO.

BW: on chalkboard

CW1:

Read all three then choose the best one. Neatly copy the best one on a fresh sheet of loose leaf.

YOU MUST BE READY TO TALK TO ME AND EXPLAIN WHY YOUR CHOICE IS GOOD AND THE OTHER PARAGRAPHS ARE BAD.

paragraph 1 (introduction): Juul is bad because the guy came in the room and said we don’t want kids using e-cigarettes but then Juul put Ariana Grande in one of their posters at Chuck. E. Cheese.

paragraph 1 (introduction): KIDS THESE DAYS! Frustrated parents have been saying this for hundreds of years, and each new generation keeps the saying alive. In 2020, one of the biggest struggles for young people is Juul (vaping), but many years ago, the struggle was just as real with normal cigarettes (smoking) from Big Tobacco. The articles “What Juul Tried to Hide” and “How Big Tobacco Fooled America” explain how Juul and Big Tobacco used similar tactics to sell their products such as special flavorings and ads with famous people. However, these companies were quite different in one important way: social media.

paragraph 1 (introduction): Joey Bartolomeo’s article and Jennifer Dignan’s article show how Juul and Big Tobacco used similar tactics to sell their harmful products. These companies used ads with famous young people, used special flavorings, and used cartoons and social media to sell their dangerous products to innocent young children.
