HW:

First, read the beginning of “Dirk the Protector” (pages 278-281 in the ELA 7 lit book, link below)

Carefully read the top part of page 282. You might want to take notes on loose leaf as you read (bullets).

On computer paper DRAW and COLOR a sketch of the dog.  Your sketch must included all the details that are in the text.

EXERCISE 99

Don’t do #2.  It’s weird.

#3 – brittle means it is dry and might break, flimsy means it’s floppy and not well connected

#4 is b lol.

#5 – restricted and prohibited mean you’re not allowed, confined means you have to stay somewhere

#6 – restrain means to keep something back, retain means to hold something in

Every Monday, we have been SSR (silent sustained reading) our library books for eleven minutes. These are the CW’s so far …

  • Write three things you remember from your reading (the book must be shut).
  • Make a bullet list of words you don’t know then choose one and make a flash card.  Tape the card at the bottom of the loose leaf.
  • Copy a small section from your library book then VISUALIZE (draw a pic to make the text).
  • Write about things you would add to or delete from the book if you were the author.
  • Write a paragraph to explain why you did NOT finish reading your entire library book.
  • Fold a piece of computer printer paper like a book then design and color a NEW cover for your book.  Write a summary on the back – in your own words.
  • Neatly list the FULL title and author of your library book 7 times.
  • Choose ONE chapter to really study.  Take notes on loose leaf.  The teacher will be allowed to ask you ANYTHING about that chapter.

You MUST bring a book to read.

This is a real HW.  If you bring a book to read, you will earn full points (A+). If you don’t bring a book to read, you will earn zero points.

This one assignment will cover all the work you missed while you were on the trip.  You’re welcome.

Neatly copy these questions on loose leaf then restate:

  2. What were the Washington Redskins originally known as?
  3. Why were sheep allowed on the White House lawn? (HINT: two reasons)

Here’s an example for your composition book (page #2):

Almost everyone knows that football is America’s favorite sport. In fact, over 2 million American kids play football, starting as young as age 5! (Shotz, page 11). For those who don’t know, football is a pretty rough sport with two teams both battling to  move the almond shaped football into the other team’s territory. Many parents are now questioning if their kids should even be allowed to play this sport. Kids should NOT play football. Football is not a good career choice, and it’s one of the most dangerous sports in the world.
