SPORTS TEAM

WRITING ASSIGNMENT

Imagine that one day, a few years from now, you become rich and become the owner of a professional sports team.  (basketball, football, baseball, or hockey, or even better: be creative!)

Please write a creative, interesting description of your sports team.

Remember to describe

  • WHAT SPORT the team will play
  • WHERE the team will play (what city? what stadium? indoor?  outdoor?)
  • WHAT the team jersey will LOOK LIKE
  • WHO will play on the team
  • and, of course, the team’s NAME

Remember: SHOW not TELL and details, details, details. That means include a lot of details.

  1. First, write a rough draft on loose leaf. Please skip lines for the rough draft.  Your rough draft should be AT LEAST one page (skipping lines) but more than one page is probably better.
  2. Read through your draft. Use colored pencils to REVISE your rough draft.  You should make at least three improvements to your rough draft.
  3. On a new sheet of loose leaf, write a final copy. You should take your time and use your best handwriting for your final copy.  DO NOT SKIP LINES!  Please try to fit your final copy on the FRONT only of the loose leaf.
  4. Neatly staple your final copy on top of your rough draft.

HINT:  Your rough draft and final copy are due IN CLASS!  Please get right to work and do not waste time in class.  This assignment is worth AT LEAST 10 points, probably more.

HOMEWORK:

Please draw a picture of your team jersey.  Please take your time and make the picture neat and colorful.  You may draw a player wearing your jersey or just the jersey alone. (5 points)

WE STARTED THESE ASSIGNMENTS 4 DAYS AGO!

They are both due MONDAY.

CW: VENN DIAGRAM (also known as a double bubble)

[computer paper]

Draw two large circles that overlap each other slightly. Use a paper bowl or something similar to make perfect, large circles. Label the circles Dearborn and Fresno. The shared middle area of the circles should have 5 (or more) bullets that show how Dearborn and Fresno are the SAME.  The outer parts of the circles should have 5 bullets for Dearborn and 5 bullets for Fresno showing how they are DIFFERENT. All the information you need about Fresno was in the ELA LIT. book.  I posted the page yesterday on this blog. The information about Dearborn should come from your brain.  You know a lot about Dearborn – you LIVE HERE! Please use neat handwriting and watch your spelling.  It wouldn’t KILL you to add a little color and maybe a few small pics.

CW: acronyms and initialisms

[loose leaf]

Draw a large T-chart that vertically splits your loose leaf in half.  Label the left side “acronyms” and the right side “initialisms”. List 10 of each.  You must explain what each abbreviation stands for. Remember that acronyms are abbreviations that can be said as a word while initialisms are abbreviations in which each letter is said individually. Neither use periods. I posted a page from the WRITE SOURCE Grade 7 book to help you (see yesterday’s post). If you think of any that AREN’T in the book, that’s good! Highlight the ones that came from your own brain.

SEE YOU TOMORROW. 🙂

Don’t forget to finish page #3 in your composition book. You should write about ONE thing you did this past weekend. Stay on topic! Only write about one thing you did this weekend, but use a lot of details. (Use yesterday’s BW to help you.)

ONLY ONE THING!

STAY ON TOPIC!

HW:

RESTATE questions (for the Code of Conduct).

Your answers should be written on loose leaf.

Remember that #6 is your OPINION and #7 is on a flashcard, so you only need to restate for 1-5.

REMINDER: All groups that did not perform yet should be ready to perform tomorrow.

“What Part of the Code of Conduct is NOT fair?”

It is unfair that students are NEVER allowed to chew gum on school property. One reason that this rule is unfair is because students may have bad breath after lunch. Some fresh, minty gum is doing everyone a favor after that spicy burrito. Also, some parts of the school are outdoors, and gum chewing won’t cause any harm outside. Blowing a bubble while watching the football game should not be a criminal offense. Lastly (and most importantly) some students actually do better school work while their chewing gum. As long as the gum is quiet and the student is focusing on work, what’s the problem? The gum chewing rule in the Code of Conduct is definitely a bit too strict.

PLEASE DO NOT COPY MY EXAMPLE WORD FOR WORD ON PAGE 2 IN YOUR COMPOSITION BOOK!

Yes … I did make a very obvious mistake in that paragraph. Let me know if you caught it.
