HOMEWORK  (if you did not finish in class today)

On loose leaf, write an interesting report of all the fun things you did over the break. Or you may pick the ONE best thing you did over the break and write about it.

  • Skip lines.
  • Use nice handwriting.
  • You should write at least one full page.

  • FOR AN A+: After you write a draft on loose leaf, type this assignment and e-mail it to me.

dobertn@dearbornschools.org

The e-mail MUST be sent to me before midnight tonight! (if you want an A+)

The beaten and kicked bully selected a strong fox and a healthy rabbit to carry him to the peasant‘s house.

CW:

Write these bullets next to the correct paragraph:

  • This paragraph explains how movie ticket money is not enough to cover theater costs.
  • This paragraph explains how theaters make huge money from selling snacks, especially popcorn.
  • This paragraph is the second reason why you should NOT sneak snacks into the theater.

QAR – Copy the question and all four choices on loose leaf then use QAR to answer the question. Don’t forget to use color to show evidence in the text.

#3) Based only on subtitles, which is the BEST summary of the article?

A. Movie theater snacks are expensive, but they help the theater stay in business.

B. The snack business hates it when people break the rules and buy expensive gummy bears and soda.

C. Theater snacks are expensive and unhealthy, so some people believe it’s ok to sneak snacks.

D. Theater snacks are expensive, but they help the theater stay in business, so it’s a good idea to think before you decide to break the rules.

Use these bullets to explain why two of the answers are WRONG:

  • only two of the subtitles
  • doesn’t even mention theaters

ANNOTATIONS:

  • This is the only paragraph that’s actually about the Falcons.
  • Isn’t this word also a kind of dessert or sweet? (circle the word)
  • Draw a little VENN diagram to compare and contrast the two teams.
  • This paragraph proves how horrible the Steelers are.

QAR – Copy on loose leaf with regular pencil.  Make sure you use color to show evidence in the text.

#7 Which words from the article help the reader figure out the definition of “turnover”?

A. “wound up settling for a field goal”

B. “with zero interceptions”

C. “forced” and “neither hurts itself”

D. “losing star tight end Rob Gronkowski”

USE THESE BULLETS WHEN YOU CROSS OFF TWO WRONG ANSWERS:

  • wrong because scores 3 points
  • injured so not even playing

EXTRA CREDIT (from the pink Lowrey School February newsletter)

On loose leaf, neatly copy the whole poem. Make sure the right words are on the right lines.

In class, find the poem in the ELA Lit book.

Look at the picture.

Bring in a similar picture from your house to attach to your loose leaf.

Be ready to read the poem to me before or after school or during lunch WITH NO MISTAKES!

Please make sure you are bringing ALL your supplies every day.

HW:

Read and annotate the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society letter about raising money for young people who are struggling with cancer.

It wouldn’t hurt to research any of the vocabulary that you are not sure about.

From paragraph 3 – “Your child will learn about service, leadership and philanthropy and how they can change patients’ lives.”

My annotations:

HMMMMMM. “Your child” is singular so “they” should be “he or she”.

I would guess most 7th graders don’t know what “philanthropy” means.

Neatly copy the paragraph that matches your prediction into your composition book page #4. Then use three colors to underline or highlight the CLAIM, EVIDENCE, and REASONING.

This is a final copy so do not skip lines and please use your BEST handwriting.

FALCONS

The Atlanta Falcons will beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51. In the article it says, “The club has never had a quarterback quite as good as Ryan, though” (NEWSELA, 2). Since Ryan is the best quarterback that the Falcons have ever had, then they have a good chance of winning.  The text says, “He led past Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers 44-21” (NEWSELA, 2). If they can blow out a team that has Aaron Rodgers on their side then they can definitely beat the Patriots. The Patriots are going to be crushed by the Falcons in Super Bowl 51.

PATRIOTS

The Patriots will DESTROY the Falcons. In the article it states “New England opened the season with a 3-win, 1-loss record while playing without Brady” (NEWSELA, 2). This proves Brady’s absence didn’t stop the Patriots. The article also states “The 39 year old Brady threw for three touchdowns. It was the ninth time he had done that in a playoff game” (NEWSELA, 2). This proves Brady is a boss, and he is ready to beat the Falcons. With Brady, the Patriots will demolish the Falcons.

BW –

Today’s BW must be completed and turned in tomorrow if you want the full points and the HW ticket.

CW –

  • Carefully read and annotate the article: “Now Patriots are out to deflate Falcons’ hopes in Super Bowl”.
  • Then read the article again. Use two highlighters – highlight good things about the Falcons with one color.  Use the other color to highlight good things about the Patriots.
  • On loose leaf, create a T-chart to list the good things about both teams.

You should finish this CW at home tonight so you will have enough time to write your prediction in class tomorrow.

ONE EXTRA CREDIT POINT: “Why is the apostrophe AFTER the “s” in the title of the article?
