CLASSWORK

This classwork is due TODAY at the end of class.

You should only do this class work after you have finished your test.

composition book page #7

Neatly write 2-3 FACTS about hypnosis. These facts MUST be from the article that you read for the test.

Then write your personal OPINION about hypnosis.

Make sure you have ALL 7 PAGES done, then turn in your composition book.

HOMEWORK (for extra credit):

Wear one small green thing.

Wear a little green.

Wear some green.

Wear half green.

Wear mostly green.

Wear a lot of green.

Wear almost all green.

The LAST one is what you should do if you want extra credit.

Here is something else you should read and annotate and study BEFORE the big test:

fact.opinion.study.guide (2)

STUDY GUIDE:

Read and annotate “Is Hypnosis a Trick?” by R. Lindal.  The passage must be FULLY annotated if you want full points.  You will have some time in class to get this done.

Write down ALL the words you don’t know while you read the passage.  You will NOT be allowed to take the article home with you. Make sure you look up the definitions for all the words (at home).

You should also make sure you know what these words mean:

HINT: write a VERY SHORT simple definition next to each word

  • possibilities
  • avoid
  • destructive
  • humorous
  • critical
  • somber
  • supposedly
  • eagerly
  • hesitantly
  • simplicity
  • harmless
  • demonstrate
  • encourage
  • amuse
  • infer
  • reveal
  • primarily
  • occurrences
  • fraud

Neatly copy this question on loose leaf then TALK it through with someone.  Make sure you can explain why two of the answers are wrong. And be ready to point to proof in the article for the correct answer.

According to the article, a hypnotized person will NOT:

A. always be honest

B. experience less fear

C. see dead people

D. respond to commands

OH AND BY THE WAY … there might be one or two questions about “Power of the Curse” just to separate the A students from the B students.

Well it looks like we WON’T have a big test tomorrow.

Enjoy your day off.

Hello.

Just a quick reminder – Friday, March 17, 2017 is the last day of report card #4.

You have 7 school days left to make sure your grade is what you want it to be.

Oh and … BIG TEST SOON! (worth at least 100 points)

Oh and … COMPOSITION BOOKS due soon. Please make sure you have all six pages done.

BW:

[loose leaf]

If you could leave Dearborn and live anywhere in the universe, where would you live? Give and explain at least 3 reasons for your answer.

  • Skip lines.
  • Write at least half a page.

CW #1:

[loose leaf]

Write an INTERESTING sentence for each of the words from the word list near the bottom of page 461 in the ELA Lit book. Please highlight the vocabulary words in your sentences. HINT: Use the sentences in the story to help you if you’re stuck. Um or use a chromebook.

CW #2:

COMPOSITION BOOK page #6

Neatly draw the root word pend/pens web from the bottom of page 480 in the ELA Lit book. Then add AT LEAST one more pend/pens word. Then neatly copy the 5 sentences and fill in the blanks with the correct word from the web.

So remember the BW the other day when you were SUPPOSED to READ the article first then copy something or make a flash card?

I have the strangest feeling that MOST of you went straight to the work but forgot to read.

READ IT!

Take your time.

Make sure you know what each section/paragraph is about.  Read the confusing parts again. Slowly.

Talk about it with someone to help you understand.

Tell your teddy bear what the article is about.

Dont’ forget the titles and pictures and captions.

Here it is again:

  • Walk quietly and calmly to the library.
  • Stay calm and quiet in the library.
  • Be serious, not silly.
  • Choose a good fit book that is in your LEXILE range. Try to find a book that you MIGHT ACTUALLY ENJOY READING!
  • After you check out the book, sit quietly in the library and read it.
  • When we get back to class, find a comfortable place and position and read SILENTLY for 7 minutes.
